By JAYZS: Does Size Always Matter?
http://byjayzs.blogspot.com/2015/06/size-does-not-always-matter.html
Sunday, 28 June 2015. Does Size Always Matter? Other visitors to my swim included this woodmouse, totally oblivious to my presence, and this cheeky, chirpy little chap. If the alliteration does not help you with the bird's ID: tough! How can they call it cool? I almost screamed in agony at the powerful sting that went right through my lip, feeling as if had every intention of severing my tongue! About £2-95 of the £3-00 I paid for it. A Gorgeous 5-15 Female. A Spawny 10-5 Tinca. Not so gorgeous. But it h...

Friday, 19 September 2014. Beauties and the Beasts. Beautifully Camouflaged: LSD ( Photo credit: someone else). Wonderfully Ugly Beastie: the Red Lipped batfish. Photo Credit A.N. Other. But another fish has come to my notice, that now holds pride of place as the weirdest fish I have yet seen. The red lipped batfish. from the Galapagos.where else? I have just been consulting a web page about identification of parr. Salmon or brown trout? A buzzard took advantage of my lack of suitable camera gear to fly ...

Tuesday, 10 February 2015. The Great British Mole Hunt and Fifty Shades of Grayling. But no, I was unable to find an entrance at all. No area was softer than the rest. Similar results came from another three or four hills, and I was left to conclude that the mole must back fill, and densely pack the hole. I retreated and left the research area, in order to consult Google on mole behaviour and their hills. GBMH round one: Moles 1, JayZS nil. Don't tell the wife I am off again. I know. My phone rang: my so...

Saturday, 1 August 2015. More Birds Than Fish. Well, it was time to take my wellies back to the Wye. And why not? It is a long trip, but I. I am fairly sure it was a tawny own. Definitely not a barn owl or little owl. Sand Martins Nesting in Pipework. Green Woodpecker: At 100 yards Plus. I did take this photo of a female blue banded demoiselle. Not a trace of blue on the females. I didn't manage to get a photo of one last week, so as to be able to show the differences between the sexes. 160; This blog en...

By JAYZS: Apocalypse Last Week
http://byjayzs.blogspot.com/2015/08/apocalypse-last-week.html
Friday, 7 August 2015. At sometime during the fishing match my mobile phone was sabotaged. I have never been an expert with a mobile phone, despite my life-long computer industry background. A situation that my son takes great advantage of, in order to poke fun at me. He suddenly had an ally. That damned woman in my SatNav, she who must be obeyed. As I typed my password, she made a vocal confirmation with every key pressed. Being security conscious, she did. Wifi", "Data usage", "Bluetooth". The carp ang...

Monday, 23 June 2014. One even sneaked in just five minutes before my arrival. Have these carp anglers no shame? But it gave me a chance to try another swim, one I have fancied but not fished before. I blanked of course,. Great Tit and Two Young Pleaders. Spectacularly so, without any signs of fish rising, and nothing interfered with my bait, save for a cheeky robin and some young great tits. Silly, Stupid, Semi Submerged Swan. The pond is now, in high Summer, absolutely lovely, full of lilies, both comm...

By JAYZS: ...and Over-confidence.
http://byjayzs.blogspot.com/2015/06/and-over-confidence.html
Monday, 15 June 2015. There is nothing like a good day by the lake to boost confidence to stratospheric levels. That first and successful day also saw fish rolling all over the lake. It was noticeable the next day that very few fish were seen moving at all. And that is another enigma: why DO fish roll? They wish to stay deep, surely? All I know is that rolling fish are not to be ignored: their rolling is probably something. To do with feeding, but if the fish are rolling all in one place, then that at le...

Tuesday, 21 July 2015. An Expedition.and Another New P.B. I am not, I assure you, totally bored with catching tench. Nor am I cheesed off at the various blank trips that have been mandatorily sandwiched between the successes. Nice to have the jam between the slices of bread, but occasionally too I need a change of filling: perhaps ham and pickle, or egg and mayonnaise? So, after considerable thoughts about the menu, I decided I had to fish elsewhere, for different species, in totally different waters.
