Although our route will not be pre-planned in detail, as some of who have ridden long-distance bike rides may be accustomed to, i.e. Day 1: Nierstein to Heidelberg, 71.7 kms via Oppenheim, ferry crossing at Gernsheim then onto Burstadt, we do have some planning parameters. Frankfurt to Istanbul by Bicycle. What to bring on a bike ride. Like Goldilocks, you must have it just right. Always err on the 'less is more' principle, because if you really do need something, chances are you can purchase it en route. Take a soft bag - maybe up to 100 litres but try to make it weigh no more than 12 kgs. Any heavier, and you will find lugging it up and down stairs etc a burdensome task. Things you carry on your bike should be limited in both bulk and weight. Is helpful on this score.

Tuesday, 13 May 2014. Will it still be raining there in Germany? Like it did in 2012, poured down on us for weeks in glorious northern Germany.
