This week I have been to meet Helen, my lovely pump rep, who brought the new ‘Insight’ pump with her for me and my DSN to have a proper look at. Instead, this has been changed for a replaceable end to the pump casing which has the tubing contained. This keeps the tubing nice and neat and flush with the pump. Infusion Sets are changing too!

The only thing holding me back was my stupid nerves. I wasn’t nervous about actually inserting the sensor, I was nervous about doing something wrong (stupid I know, especially in hindsight). Asymp; 4 Comments. Today is my ‘diaversary’. At 1.30pm 33 years ago today ( 23rd July 1981 ) aged 3 years old I was officially diagnosed with Type1 diabetes. I know the exact time as it is written in my hospital records and even though the pages are ageing the handwritten notes from that day have stood the test of time so far! I often wonder when my diabetes actually began prior to my diagnosis date? Was it days, weeks or months or longer? When exactly did my immune system decide to attack my Beta cells?

I usually get it back in range before bed but it just hadn’t happened this time. I had a correction dose and decided to set the alarm for 3am to make sure the insulin had done its job and to double check that I wasn’t going too low. Two hours later…. Argh, how, what? Living with Type 1 Diabetes. My husband has decided to have his hair dyed blue to raise funds for the Diabetes charity JDRF. He informed me yesterday (2nd March 2015) that he will also be keeping it like this for 4 weeks! I think its great that he’s doing something crazy (as he is unable to do something physical) to raise money for this. I’m just not too sure about the fact that I’m going to have to be seen in public with him. This is the Just Giving fund raising link – Allun’s Blue Hair. Mum of type 1.
