Perplexed but not in despair. Sunday, October 02, 2005. Unbelievable. Sometimes you just despair in this place. Meanwhile we got a bit more background from the nurse. Apparently she had recently been sent away from school for drinking on the premises. Her Dad, who is the Chief of Police for the region, had got the school to accept her back but had her reprimanded in front of the whole school assembly. Could today be another plea for attention? Perplexed but not in despair. Sunday, October 02, 2005. There is a nurse on the paediatric ward who, until this week, was a phenomenon. She produced more gas than a North Sea rig and frequently interrupted us during the ward round as the clearance of her gastric flatus took priority over any other matter. Which medication is this child on? Burrrrrp" came the sonorous response, as the tin roof to the ward resonated, and another child began to cry in sympathy (although I don't know who with).

Perplexed but not in despair. Saturday, September 24, 2005. Friday, 2nd September:. Having survived today I have a bit more sympathy with Jesus Christ. During our attempt at a medical ward round we stumbled across a 32 year old lady with a 20 year history of smoking cigarettes who was admitted with angina and heart failure. She's barely able to walk and she can't lie flat for any length of time. If any of you have any suggestions for causes please let me know. Posted by Ian Burnell @ 7:53 AM.
