When Patrick, a mechanic at the Community Cycling Center, proposed riding through the shortest night of the year, a sane person would have laughed, stayed home, and slept in. Said sane person is 1) clearly not a cyclist and 2) would have missed out on a beautiful sunrise. The other constellations being unfamiliar to me.

Last night was the first rain of the monsoon season. Just as Portland is looking forward to sunny summer bike fun. We’re on the cusp of the rains here in India. Are we crazy? Lynne's Mostly-Cycling Blog: Milestone
http://lynnerides.blogspot.com/2015/06/milestone.html
Sunday, June 21, 2015. Ray and I set out to ride the North Plains - Banks Vernonia Trail perm pop this Thursday. The temperatures had dropped, we'd be mostly riding in the shade, and my vertigo seemed to have subsided. I had ridden a few miles in the previous couple of days, and there had been a few disequilibriating moments. So, we'd see. Given my almost continual hotfoot, I moved my cleats back about 4mm. I could shove them all the way back, but I didn't want to shock my system too much at one time.

Saturday, August 23, 2014. NP Banks Vernonia 100k. Again. Really, the nicest perm pop ever when it is hot, because 2/3 of it is on the Banks Vernonia Rail Trail, in the shade. I would be riding with Ray O and Steve B (RUSA's newest member, joined the day before the ride :-) ). It was surprisingly chilly at the start. Armwarmers, vest, legwarmers. We all met up at the North Plains McDonalds. I arrived first, and ate some more breakfast - sausage burrito and orange juice. There I was at the McDs. Diet ...
Lynne's Mostly-Cycling Blog: November 2014
http://lynnerides.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 23, 2014. Or, what I did, what worked, what I'd do differently. Except for that time when I was a Girl Scout camp counselor, and took a whole crew of kids on a bike overnight (yes, I had NO CLUE what I was doing. Helmets? And so on.), I had never done any bike touring. This was to be a credit card tour; the goal was to get to New Jersey, with a bit of sightseeing on the route. What I carried with me:. Minimal set of toiletries. I was staying in motels; they'd have soap and towels! I didn...
Lynne's Mostly-Cycling Blog: North Plains Carlton, Mostly Fun
http://lynnerides.blogspot.com/2015/06/north-plains-carlton-mostly-fun.html
Friday, June 5, 2015. North Plains Carlton, Mostly Fun. As I was busy with a bicycle safety fair on Saturday, I asked Ray if he wanted to ride on Sunday. His choice of route, as long as it wasn't a climbfest. His reply: "tired of Carlton yet? Nope North Plains - Carlton it was. We both arrived at Hits the Spot. Ray got coffee; I ordered a small second breakfast. The owner showed up (she's had knee surgery), and we all got on her for standing up so soon. It was sunny, and working up to being warm. So, a b...

Sunday, February 15, 2015. First Brevet February 2015. The route: Hillsboro Dallas. Preparations: clean the chain. Get the fruitcake out of the freezer. Have the entire family over for dinner the night before. Mind you, I was working this week, finished up at 3:30, and rode the 14.5 miles home from Wilsonville. Not going to rain. Going to be sunny. "Light fog, burning off early". The fog was thick, and, at times, thicker. The route was very familiar. Found the info control; memorized the answer a...I the...
Lynne's Mostly-Cycling Blog: Blast Furnace 200k

Thursday, June 11, 2015. Oregon Randonneurs held the Kings Valley 200k. 600k over the June 6/7 weekend. I signed up for the 200k, and figured I'd be riding solo. I had not ridden Hwy 233 (Kings Valley Highway) south of Dallas, and, while I had been on Maxfield Creek and Airlie Rd, it was dark. Lots of familiar faces showed up. Even Nate A, who I hadn't seen for 4 years! At that hour of the morning the temperature was pleasant. I found him and a few others at the Dallas Safeway, where I bought a banana an...
Lynne's Mostly-Cycling Blog: October 2014
http://lynnerides.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Chester, MD to Lewes DL, the Long Way. The most direct cycling route from Chester to Lewes is 73 miles. Which would have definitely been a consideration, if I wasn't trying to collect states for my RUSA American Explorer Award. So I planned to ride the Seagull's Revenge perm pop to Salisbury, then head back up and east to Lewes. For a total of 130 miles. Got everything packed up - not hard! Slept poorly. Why, I have no idea. Back into the wind, 30 more miles to Salisbury. T...

Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Just Riding with Chris. I've known Chris since the early 90's. We were on the same projects in the Computer Research Lab, and later the User Interface Research Lab at Tektronix. Plus, he got me back into riding my bike, and introduced me to Serious Coffee. We did some long (long = 60 miles :-) ) rides, as well as riding around after work. A good friend to have. So after a somewhat protracted conversation, we proceeded on our respective ways. Stellar. The weather was stellar, ...
