About the Bold Sewist. Back from obscurity – and a newly finished creation! Parma Violet →. March 14, 2012. One final post on the wedding before we consign it well and truly to my sewing history! You may remember that as well as Sue’s wedding dress. I was making my own bridesmaid dress, using Vogue 1192. Since I was Maid of Honour AND had to stand up in the front of the church and perform two songs as well (one of which was in Welsh! Attendance in underwear and shoes only was not really an option. I star...
Summer tops | To Boldly Sew

About the Bold Sewist. Better late than never …. July 19, 2013. Determined not to lose momentum after the last post (ok, not that that one took much effort), I grabbed the camera yesterday morning to take a few pics of recent tops just to prove that I do still exist and am still sewing, albeit at the pace of an extremely geriatric snail. Nothing particularly exciting here, just some much-needed wardrobe basics. First up, Colette Sorbetto. I love the bias binding edge finishing, so neat! It’s still ...

About the Bold Sewist. Jubilee Baby →. Kisses for me, save all your kisses for me! April 28, 2012. So last night at about 10:00 I got down on the living room floor with this fabric:. And started pinning my pattern pieces. “Surely you’re not going to start sewing NOW are you? 8221; asked my lovely husband. I explained that I simply had to join the Pyjama Party. And after all it wasn’t the first time I’d started a party outfit the night before. And I dare say it won’t be the last! I almost wish I had a dog.

Kestrel Makes: Finished: Jubilee Blouse
http://www.kestrelmakes.com/2012/06/finished-jubilee-blouse.html
Fabric and Yarn Shopping in Glasgow. Friday, 8 June 2012. This is a top I sewed up over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend. I used McCalls 9458, which I used for my Claire blouse. And an off cut of cotton shirting from a shirt dress. I made last year. I only had 60cm of the fabric but as it was extra wide, I was able to fit the pieces on horizontally and have a horizontally striped top. I made bias tape for the neckline and armholes, and really like the contrast of the stripe directions. I think I do.

The 1940 McCall Project. Saturday, April 7, 2012. This is my best Marlene Dietrich pose. Though nobody makes looking serious and stern look as glamorous as Marlene:. Photo from a great Quality Time. Post on vintage trousers. I shared a couple of weeks ago that I've been inspired to make up a suit inspired by Marlene Dietrich for the Sew Cinematic challenge. The jacket from this outfit was made using McCall 3260 from 1939 blogged about here. I think I might have enough leftover to make a matching skirt!

Tuesday, 10 May 2011. Finished jeans . and some tips! So, you have been warned, my jeans are finished and, yes, they are purple. But that is the wonderful thing about making your own jeans – you can make them any colour you like! The fabric is a cotton twill with a little lycra and it’s just perfect for a summer-weight pair of jeans – it is sturdy but cool. These jeans are the product of taking Jennifer Stern’s ‘Blue Print to Blue Jeans’ course on Pattern Review. Here is the back view. Out of the window.

Eugenia's (fabulous) world of fashion: Is it a crime to actually use vintage notions?
http://theworldofeugenia.blogspot.com/2011/06/is-it-crime-to-actually-use-vintage.html
Friday, 24 June 2011. Is it a crime to actually use vintage notions? Last weekend I went to a small vintage sale, it had all sorts of lovely things and amongst them I was very happy to find some sewing treasures. Vintage sleeve board, buttons and 5ft folding ruler. I particularly love the sleeve board because, unlike my modern one, it is very heavy and absolutely rock solid. Underside of sleeve board. 65279;Somebody has re-covered it very nicely so it is both decorative and extremely useful. I would use ...

Sewing on the rock! Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Reliable Sensor Velocity 200. I see this is coming out fall 2012. They are available for preorder on the site, but apparently haven't been reviewed anywhere yet, that I can find . My current iron is held together with scotch tape and works, well, intermittently. I currently have a Reliable iron on my birthday wish list for July, but I am wondering if I should wait until the 200 is available. In the meantime, I guess I will wait to find some reviews. The leather ...
