GPS hardwire

John has a Garmin 2720 GPS that he wanted to mount on his bike. He didn't want to use up his cigarette lighter plug for the unweildy power cord it comes with so we used one of the extra power cords I had to hardwire it. While we had the fairing off for the front lightbar. Installation I connected the GPS power wire. I found a wire on the right side of the bike that has full-time power. The frame around the radio has lots of good attachments for ground. His GPS in place and hardwired.

One of the first accessories John wanted to put on the Venture was a front lightbar. I think they really make the front of the Venture look nice and full.as well as added light to see and be seen. Stinger trailer conversion

Recently John bought several surplus government containers for next to nothing. One was a container to carry Stinger missles. The inner dimensions are 43" x 37" x 16".weatherproof.lockable.has nice latches. It occurred to him this might make a nice motorcycle trailer. We took off his cargo carrier type trailer. And set the Stinger container in place. It fit perfectly between the fenderwells! Four bolts and it was mounted. The box opens completely for easy packing and all the space is usable.

Royal Star Venture headlight mod. On the way home from South Dakota. Last summer Mike's Venture headlight caught a rock somewhere and broke the lense. An official replacement lense is very expensive so Venture owners have found ways to fix the lights at a much lower cost. John is our Venture guru so he undertook the task of replacing Mike's headlight. He even took the pictures! The damaged headlight lense. Here is the new headlamp he used.$27.99 for two (with bulbs) on Ebay! Remove the headlight assembly.

Apparently adding a rear lightbar is a popular add-on for Ventures. John said they even sell a $50 kit with brackets. John bought just the light from KMT Parts. And we installed it when we installed his front lightbar. The lightbar sets right behind the rear trunk rail and is rock solid. We ran the wiring under the trunk to his taillight and covered it with ziploom. The best part is it didn't require drilling any holes. John modified the rubber trunk rail covers for a custom fit.

2008 Yamaha Royal Star Venture. John's new Venture at the dealer in Princeton, West Virginia. On our 2008 Blue Ridge Parkway trip. John started the trip on a 1996 Yamaha Tour Deluxe and came home with the above 2008 Yamaha Royal Star Venture. That story can be found here. In preparation for future trips.
