Wendy Lugg - exploring history, place and identity

Wendy Lugg - exploring history, place and identity. In a residency hosted by the Royal Western Australian Historical Society. Wednesday, May 13, 2015. It's a long time since I last posted. It's been a busy four years since Mapping Memory opened at the State Library of WA, and no images of the exhibition made it onto the blog. However, I am currently working with the State Library to develop an online version of the exhibition which they plan to launch in August. Beyond the Battlefields…. I've been silent...

Wendy Lugg - exploring history, place and identity: Odd couple

http://wahistoryresidency.blogspot.com/2009/06/odd-couple.html

Wendy Lugg - exploring history, place and identity. In a residency hosted by the Royal Western Australian Historical Society. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. This odd couple occupy a corner of the costume storage room at Stirling House. There they stand, patiently waiting, until they are deemed the best fit for a garment about to be put on display in the Society's museum. Here is a highly magnified detail of the tiny stitches used to support the damaged areas of the dress on a fabric carefully dyed to match....

Wendy Lugg - exploring history, place and identity. In a residency hosted by the Royal Western Australian Historical Society. Sunday, June 14, 2009. The first week of June was Heritage Week here in WA - a time for the state's many local heritage organisations to highlight local history. I was pleased to be invited to be part of the festivities. Last Sunday I gave a talk as part of the Historical Society of Cockburn's heritage week celebration at Azelia Ley Homestead Museum. Emma Knight, seen here taking ...

Wendy Lugg - exploring history, place and identity. In a residency hosted by the Royal Western Australian Historical Society. Saturday, March 14, 2009. Patricia, on the left, unpacked the garment to give Jo Pearson, second from the right, a report on the work she'd done to conserve this important historical garment. Part of the Lovegrove Collection donated to the Society in the 1030's, the dress was worn by Elinor Eliot at her wedding to Dr Lovegrove circa 1869. A detail of the garment's sleeve. Since I ...

Wendy Lugg - exploring history, place and identity. In a residency hosted by the Royal Western Australian Historical Society. Saturday, April 16, 2011. I've been silent not because I had nothing to say, but because I've been busy, preparing for my exhibition Mapping Memory. Which opened at the State Library of Western Australia on April 8th. Wendy Lugg - jottings: Collagraphs

http://wendylugg.blogspot.com/2013/11/collagraphs.html

Wendy Lugg - jottings. Occasional jottings from my daily work and travels. Monday, 25 November 2013. On Friday Angie, Pam and I had the good fortune to spend a few hours with Karen McGlurkin in her studio, creating and printing collagraphs. Here Karen is winding a plate through the press. Karen removing the excess etching ink from the plate. Angie watches intently as Karen refines the ink removal process. Pam with her frog print. Angie compares her plates and the resulting prints. Wendy Lugg - jottings. Occasional jottings from my daily work and travels. Friday, 24 January 2014. Yesterday I headed up the coast to Yanchep, for a lovely catch-up with artist friends I'd not seen since my residency last November. It turned out to be an auspicious choice of days to visit. Angie Beck, who made a number of sock dolls during the residency, was about to send one of them off on a world trip. First stop Hong Kong! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Wendy Lugg - jottings. Occasional jottings from my daily work and travels. Saturday, 26 July 2014. TELLING STORIES exhibition invitation. In August 2011 I commenced a six month arts residency exploring the museum collection and local history of the City of Wanneroo, on the northern outskirts of the Perth. Wendy Lugg - jottings. Occasional jottings from my daily work and travels. Tuesday, 5 August 2014. Exhibition opened last Friday, with an appeciative audience in attendance to enjoy the wonderful work of the six artists I invited to join me in telling stories about things that matter to us. Rolls of quilts on the table, walls awaiting adornment, and in the background trolleys full of light fixtures awaiting placement. Here I am with Pam Annesley, receiving her beautiful jewellery. Wendy Lugg - jottings. Occasional jottings from my daily work and travels. Wednesday, 13 May 2015. A sneak peak at my new website. My life plays out as such a crazy pace that I never seem to find enough spare time to write about the exciting projects that swallow so much of my attention. I was unwilling to make the website visible until it had the correct domain address, but now it already needs updating and of course I am too busy with my current project to do that. So here is a sneak preview of my ...

http://wendylugg.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Wendy Lugg - jottings. Occasional jottings from my daily work and travels. Monday, 14 April 2008. An afternoon of discovery. Following on from my previous post, here are further images from my Jetty Series , some of which appeared in the "Connecting Threads" exhibition. My work evolves from my life experiences. Walking the length of the Bussleton Jetty on a bleak grey afternoon, I was drawn by the unfolding stories in the jetty’s surface. They spoke of life. And even a little blood letting.

Wendy Lugg - jottings. Occasional jottings from my daily work and travels. Saturday, 22 March 2008. In the "Connecting Threads" exhibition I followed a path to which I am increasingly drawn, of showing both textiles and photographic images. Usually the relationship is subtle, but in this instance they spoke more directly to each other. Jetty Suite 3", 40 cm (16 inches) square. The photographic images show old and weathered surfaces,.
