The Golden Compass / Northern Lights by Philip Pullman | wordbombardment

Hopefully interesting, definitely useless. The Golden Compass / Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. A small girl teaches a bear how to dress for battle. I know this book really well. I read it many, many times as a kid and when I came back to doing it again, the pages just flew by. Tell me there isn’t some tiny part of you that doesn’t want to know what a bear would go to war for. 8220;So, what’s the big deal? All right, there’s a prophecy and if there’s one thing I hate, it’s a prophecy...Adults, though,...

Hopefully interesting, definitely useless. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. The story of an eye stranded at the top of a tower that desperately wants to regrow a finger so it can wear its favourite ring. First off, I do not understand how this constitutes one entry on a list of 100 books. Granted, Tolkien was supposedly against chopping it into a trilogy, until someone pointed out that it’s impractical to print an anvil. Hence, 3 books, not one. Why was he written? Is he a joke? Tell me, please!

Edmund Pevensie (again) | The Book Blog
https://missbibliophileblog.wordpress.com/2014/09/28/edmund-pevensie-again
I’ve said before that I hated Edmund for most of. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. However, I think that he is now starting to emerge as my favourite of the four Pevensie children. After reading. I now kind of love him, and I think that he is by far the most developed character in. The Chronicles of Narnia. Edmund was interesting, and by far more interesting than the rest of the characters. The reason for this was that he wasn’t perfect, which is okay, since no real person is. He got a...He teased T...

Characters in A Song of Ice and Fire | The Book Blog
https://missbibliophileblog.wordpress.com/2014/11/10/characters-in-a-song-of-ice-and-fire
Characters in A Song of Ice and Fire. One of the things I love most about George R R Martin’s. A Song of Ice and Fire. Is the brilliantly written, complex characters. Having recently finished reading. A Feast for Crows. I was thinking about which characters I like the best, and why. I’ve also noticed that my feelings towards certain characters have changed over the course of the series. Tyrion remains possibly my favourite character of the series, despite not actually appearing in. A Feast for Crows.

the Earthsea Quartet by Ursula le Guin | The Book Blog
https://missbibliophileblog.wordpress.com/2015/07/07/the-earthsea-quartet-by-ursula-le-guin
The Earthsea Quartet by Ursula le Guin. Is a fantasy series set in a world made up of hundreds of little islands, where dragons exist and wizards are trained to fight for good or for evil. The series follows the adventures of Sparrowhawk, a wizard, along with various other characters, including Arren, a prince, and Tenar, a child priestess. The Winds of Winter. That said, I did really enjoy. The Tombs of Atuan. And I quite enjoyed. A Wizard of Earthsea. Aside from all else, this is probably the only fant...

Wordbonds | Bonding thru Words
My Word is My Bond-. Captain James Hook, from Barry’s Peter Pan. O quote a pirate, albeit a fictional one, in a web site about translation might look a bit eccentric, plus it doesn’t suggest faithfulness, which should be at the core of the translation trade. But it was through Hook that I heard of this saying, and he deserves his credit. My word is my bond, that is the very nature of the translation activity: using words to create bonds between languages, people, cultures. Follow me on Facebook.
