Pippi's Pole: October 2013
http://acrobaticpole.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 6, 2013. Why is everyone standing around holding the pole? Things I want to say to these people:. Are you logging this as a workout? Didn't you pay money to be here? If you are standing around a pole studio zoning out at the hottie next to you doing tricks, you are not working out. You are not training. You are probably not learning. Don't fall for it. Sure, you need to process, watch, and prep. But do so consciously, or else you're just stalling. Because when you place your hands as if y...

Pippi's Pole: Studio Review: Pole Haus, Philadelphia
http://acrobaticpole.blogspot.com/2014/08/studio-review-pole-haus-philadelphia.html
Monday, August 11, 2014. Studio Review: Pole Haus, Philadelphia. Striking an Anastasia at Pole Haus Philly. For as often as I've been to Philly, I haven't poled a lot there. Most of the studios are in the suburbs and my schedule is usually so packed that even if I had a car it would be tough to find a class at my level during my free time. There was that time I went to Philly Premier Pole Studio (see Studio Review: Philly Premier Pole Studio. But I understand that place is sadly no more. I didn't work ou...

Pippi's Pole: Studio Review: La Bombe, Salt Lake City
http://acrobaticpole.blogspot.com/2014/05/studio-review-la-bombe-salt-lake-city.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Studio Review: La Bombe, Salt Lake City. I went on an actual vacation! Long story short, I got my master's online and decided to show up to Utah State for commencement. It was mostly an excuse to go to Utah, because I'd never been and I get unreasonably excited about going new places, and because I love mountains. (I don't ski or anything, I just like to look at them! My travel plans got switched around a bit, leaving me with some free time, so I decided to use it for pole, natch.

Pippi's Pole: Studio Review: TSNY Boston
http://acrobaticpole.blogspot.com/2014/12/studio-review-tsny-boston.html
Sunday, December 21, 2014. Studio Review: TSNY Boston. Was locally famous for being located inside Jordan's Furniture. I had sticker shock looking at the class prices- $50-60 plus a $20 registration fee- but luckily they had just started a LivingSocial deal, so we were able to get in for much less. Here's what the first class was actually like: the teachers gave us some simple instructions on how to take off, they demo a sequence with multiple steps in it, and they say "Who's first? And that meant we got...

Pippi's Pole: September 2013

Saturday, September 7, 2013. The stigma of injury. I first dislocated my shoulder in 2004. The same year I started pole dancing, and as you can imagine, that's not a coincidence. It's also not the only time I dislocated it that year. It's one of those injuries that a) some people are naturally predisposed to, and b) recurs. And pole and aerial are just as dangerous for your shoulders as playing tackle football. But these things happen, right? If you've ever been seriously injured in the aerial arts- or, ...

Pippi's Pole: Studio Review: Onyx Pole and Aerial, Sandy UT
http://acrobaticpole.blogspot.com/2014/05/studio-review-onyx-pole-and-aerial.html
Friday, May 9, 2014. Studio Review: Onyx Pole and Aerial, Sandy UT. So on my last day of vacation, I drove out to this industrial-looking strip mall in Sandy. This buliding has some interesting stuff going on! In addition to Onyx's pole and aerial studio. They neighbored an archery school, a fencing school, and. I forget, martial arts or something. You can really stay busy here! I love these spacious, non-urban places for that. I have no idea how to parallel park.). Her name was April and we spent some q...

Pippi's Pole: November 2013

Friday, November 29, 2013. Rethinking what makes you "Not A Stripper". I'm not a stripper because I don't take my clothes off.". Lets talk about state laws for a second. "Gentlemen's clubs" in different areas might have various amounts of skin exposed for legal reasons. Some states you can run around in your birthday suit, some you can't bare anything, some it depends whether or not you're selling alcohol or what percentage of your square footage. Is devoted to adult entertainment. What if you're wearing...

Pippi's Pole: January 2014
http://acrobaticpole.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 9, 2014. Drop it like it's hot (where "it" is you and damn straight it's hot). Land on your good side. Flips and drops are transitions. You're dramatically going from a starting pose to a finishing pose. Most students tackle a new drop by going into the starting position on the side they're most comfortable with. But what you should actually be thinking about is the side you're going to land on. Don't forget to let go. I don't want anybody trying to flip until they feel safe letting go.

Pippi's Pole: Studio Review/Pippi goes climbing: Metrorock, Newburyport MA
http://acrobaticpole.blogspot.com/2014/12/studio-reviewpippi-goes-climbing.html
Saturday, December 20, 2014. Studio Review/Pippi goes climbing: Metrorock, Newburyport MA. This is kind of a studio/gym review and kind of a diary of going climbing for my first time. Like, it's my first time so I have nothing to compare it to, but I still thought you'd like to know about it! The gym is Metrorock Newburyport. And I'm lucky enough that my friend had a guess pass so I could get in free. Metrorock is in a huge warehouse-like space, which is an environment that will be familiar to many aeria...
