Approaching the Crest: Daffodil!

http://approachingthecrest.blogspot.com/2010/03/daffodil.html

Wednesday, March 17, 2010. The sun came out today, and ushered in some warm weather. That must have made my daffodils happy, because one bloomed today:. I can't help but smile to see this harbinger of spring. Several more look like they will open tomorrow. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Welcome to my garden! View my complete profile. Approaching the Crest: Blue-eyed grass

http://approachingthecrest.blogspot.com/2012/05/blue-eyed-grass.html

Thursday, May 10, 2012. Several years ago I planted two clumps of blue-eyed grass (Sisyrinchium angustifolium) in the upper garden. Blue eyed grass is not really a grass; it's actually more closely related to the iris. Maybe that's why I like it so well. Unfortunately, it was never happy in my garden, and didn't last very long. These pics from 2009 document the last time I saw it:. When I was cleaning up the terraces this spring, I saw a clump of grass just ouside the daylily area:. Welcome to my garden!

Approaching the Crest: June 2014 Blooms

http://approachingthecrest.blogspot.com/2014/06/june-2014-blooms.html

Monday, June 16, 2014. Just two photos for June Bloom Day, to try to get myself back into the habit of posting something. Here for the record. These are two of my favorite plant combinations in my yard, and they are both blooming now. One was planned, the other a happy accident. Enjoy! Asclepias tuberosa (orange butterfly weed) and Spigelia marilandica (Indian pink). At least they are near each other again this year. Gardener on Sherlock Street. June 19, 2014 at 8:37 PM. Approaching the Crest: July 2013 Blooms

http://approachingthecrest.blogspot.com/2013/07/july-2013-blooms.html

Sunday, July 21, 2013. Once again, my bloom day post has been delayed. I blame the excessive heat. Oh, I took pictures on the 14th and 15th, but the heat has completely sapped my energy for even the most sedentary tasks, like blogging. Fortunately the garden doesn't complain quite as much about the heat as I do. I did venture out earlier in the week to find a cucumber hiding among the very tall weeds. It is over a foot long. On to the blooms . And here's a closeup of the blooming sedum. Oh, I'm pooped n...

Approaching the Crest: Daffodil Wars

http://approachingthecrest.blogspot.com/2011/03/daffodil-wars.html

Wednesday, March 9, 2011. I've been eagerly anticipating the first blooming of my daffodils for a week or two. I saw some others in town the other day, so I knew mine would be along soon. The clumps in the front of the house always bloom first. I like to pit my daffs against each other. White versus yellow. Too bad they don't know they're competing. The returning champion yellows are coming out strong. Any day now. But look here: a solitary white, nearly hidden under the nandina, is OPEN! Where to Find Me.

Day 73 – Oranges Are The Only Fruit | The Big Toodle

https://bigtoodle.wordpress.com/2010/12/07/day-73-oranges-are-the-only-fruit

Our Cross-Country Bike Advenure. Day 73 – Oranges Are The Only Fruit. Day 73 Opelousas to New Iberia. Today was an eventful day. First and foremost, it was the perfect day for riding, for which we were infinitely grateful. We haven’t seen many perfect days, and this one was a doozy: clear skies, no wind, not hot, not cold, low humidity. Contentment galore. Have I mentioned lately how much I like Louisiana? I totally like Louisiana. We don’t just have oranges; we have sunburst tangerines, Satsuma tangerin...

APPROACHING SYSTEMS

We are now in transition from an object-oriented to a systems-oriented culture. Here change emanates, not from things, but from the way things are done. Jack Burnham, Systems Esthetics (1968). Artists should create new grammars of action, not simply new grammars of visuality. They should create alternative algorithms. They should reinvent the architectural flow of play and the game’s position in the world, not just its maps. Alexander R. Galloway, Gaming: Essays On Algorithmic Culture (2006).

Approaching the Abyss

What is the Abyss? Unfortunately, as is completely obvious I have not had time for another post for months! My preaching and my teaching schedule have just made it impossible to post. That being said, my schedule, hopefully, will get even busier. I've applied to do a research PhD at St. John's University. If my abstract is accepted, I'll be doing a research PhD there. Please pray that it is! 8221; Why is it that I keep putting pressure on myself not to make any mistake? I think I know why. My last wo...

Vt Governor Schumlin speaks on the drug epidemic in the state, the current heroin capital of America. We are confronting these problems from their roots up, and our personal experiences, conversations, and research have helped us arrive at better antidotes from prevention and rehabilitation. The key question to be answered is, what happens after that? We click our heels and praise corporate pharma for quelling our ills? Do these factors influence the integrity of the industry?

Approaching the Crest

Sunday, March 29, 2015. Daffodils and Other Signs of Spring. I've only managed three posts in the last year, and the blog is essentially dead. But since it started as a way for me to track some things going on in the yard - a public journal of sorts - and one thing I've consistently tracked is daffodils (first bloom date and color as well as total bloom count), I'm back. I might as well rename this "The Daffodil Journal". Here's this year's winner:. 2015: white ( 27 Mar). See you again in about six weeks...

Am I preoccupied with vanity, ruthless in my pursuit of the ideal body size? Am I purposely defiant, an attention seeker and an egomaniac? Do I dress in black, don chains and piercings? Am I always crying, always complaining, always overtly sad? My pastimes include watching. The question was, What could we do?
