Postcards From the Edge: June 2008

http://auntiekiki.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Postcards From the Edge. Sunday, June 15, 2008. You like me. You really like me! So, I just had the surprise of my life when I checked my e-mail. I received an e-mail from Yelp.com ("Real reviews, real people") that I had received a compliment. I went to my page and someone had said "Congrats on ROTD for Ella Dining Room and Bar." I was confused. I know what ROTC is.what the hell is ROTD? Before I knew it, there was another compliment referencing the same thing! You will see yours truly! After depositing...

Postcards From the Edge. Monday, June 24, 2013. My not-so-elobrate book review: The Gravedigger's Daughter. By Joyce Carol Oates. My rating: 2 of 5 stars. After 582 pages, one would hope to have more to say about a book than "meh". I suppose I'm proud to have stuck it out, but to what end? Much of the middle of the book I found myself thinking, "thank God I'm single! View all my reviews. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sacramento, California, United States. View my complete profile.

http://auntiekiki.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Postcards From the Edge. Saturday, May 31, 2008. So, I recently got home from the most surreal of outings. The beauty of the Internet, to me, comes in the form of social networking sites like MySpace and facebook. I've been able to reconnect with some band geeks from back in the day and today, three of us met up for lunch. Good ol' Forrest Cicogni started the planning, but the guy lives in Brooklyn! Last summer as he was playing in the pit band for Music Circus in downtown Sacramento. Just an aside.

Postcards From the Edge: December 2011

http://auntiekiki.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Postcards From the Edge. Tuesday, December 27, 2011. To celebrate the occasion of our mutual fall birthdays, my sister, brother-in-law and I make it a point to go out for a nice, celebratory meal during my week-long Christmas visit. This year, as with last year, we chose to go to Aria in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood. The change for this year, however, is that my brother-in-law Greg secured the private table in the basement wine cellar. Course 1 - Creamless Celery Root Soup [black truffles parmesan].

Miss Christina Powers: "So people sit on there? Even though dead people are underneath?"--Alaina

http://misschristinapowers.blogspot.com/2013/07/so-people-sit-on-there-even-though-dead.html

Saturday, July 6, 2013. So people sit on there? Even though dead people are underneath? July 2, 2013. 6:30AM came early that Tuesday. We knew today was set to be another scorcher at 93 before 10:00AM and a high of 108 for the day. But our plan for today was to show off what happens on a normal day in the lives of my parents. As it turns out my parents don't usually hit Santa Cruz, Disneyland, and the Jelly Belly factory each day. Most days in fact they start the day with Tai Chi in the park. We also came...

Miss Christina Powers: "A lighter? Of our own?"--Justin

http://misschristinapowers.blogspot.com/2013/07/a-lighter-of-our-own-justin.html

Sunday, July 7, 2013. Day Nine: July 4, 2013. The next day we packed back into the car and headed out East. We've been doing a good amount of traveling to the coast but this was our first real move inland. We drove for a little over and hour to Sly Park. Sly Park in the winter is a ski area and in the summer it's a lake that attracts campers. The closest hoops we determined were at Woodside Elementary School (the school I went to K-6th grade). At that point no one was really interested in driving&#46...

Wednesday, May 22, 2013. May 22, 2013- a return to the blog. Well it's been a long while since I have blogged but it looks like this summer is shaping up to be a blog-worthy one. First off, I am just wrapping up my first year as a site administrator in Akiuk and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. There really isn't a way for me to sum up everything so I'll just post a couple of pictures to distract you. Akiuk School is August. Akiuk School in February. Summer is just around the corner and these are my plans:.

Monday, June 30, 2008. Questions most asked of me. When I am in Alaska there is a question I am asked most often. It happens several times a day. It is asked from each of my students. It's asked sometimes on the upwards of 20 times in one day. The question most asked is. "when is break? What made you move to Alaska? And the thing is. the question is not all that great of one to answer. Why does anyone choose to live in any place? What made you move to Nebraska? I have six students. I have friends who thi...

Miss Christina Powers: August 2008

http://misschristinapowers.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 11, 2008. Road Trip: Day Five (goodbye hole, hello Gutierrez). July 19th we left the Grand Canyon area and drove to New Mexico.  It was time to drop off my three nieces with my sister (and brother in law) and end the summer romance for two of them.  We would become a much smaller party of eight soon. But then it was back in the car. The weather was turning from painfully hot to occasionally raining. It made for a pretty rainbow a few times. It was a great relief to get to the Gutierrez' pl...

Sunday, July 7, 2013. Someone gassed up my car when I was gassing up my car! Day Eight: July 3, 2013. Today we piled into the car for the drive back down to the Bay Area. Today's plan was the Exploratorium and a nature hike at Land's End. The Exploratorium is a hands-on interactive Science museum. This is one of those places where I know the teacher in me bleeds into my general vacationing trip with the kids. Survive and thrive with Auntie Ketty's Frugal Feasts

Survive and thrive with Auntie Ketty's Frugal Feasts. Sunday, 27 May 2012. The sun is high and the song about mad dogs plays through my mind, unbidden . This weather is wonderful for most of us, but how to cool down? I know from scanning other people's shopping trolleys during my routine shop, that bottled fizzy drinks feature high on the list of thirst quenchers. Full of e numbers, aspartame and other sweeteners, these drinks do nothing for our overall health. A small punnet of strawberries. Separate wh...

Machine washable and reversible, these homespun versatile smocks can be dressed up or dressed down: they can be worn by themselves in the warm summer air or indoors over a long sleeved t-shirt with leggings, shorts, a diaper or jeans. As a mother, what I like the most is that these pinafores will be worn by my daughter as she grows (no short ’shelf - life’ like most of her other garments).
