one day at a time: a story for the grandkids
http://awanderinggnome.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-story-for-grandkids.html
One day at a time. This is what I'm up to. Thursday, August 9, 2012. A story for the grandkids. It looks and sounds much worse than it actually is. Yesterday I was hit by a bus:. There's so much else I want to share, though, that this has to take the back seat for a moment. And what may have been the best cream puff I have ever eaten. We camped out in Zanesville at an RV campground, and because it was a clear night I was able to sleep in my tent without the rain fly, and fell asleep watching the stars.

One day at a time. This is what I'm up to. Friday, July 27, 2012. Hands down, the most common response to the sentence “I’m biking from Chicago to D.C. with Hazon. 8221; has been “You’re doing WHAT. I recently read an essay from Contents magazine called “ 10 Timeframes. I’ve found myself struggling with these calendars over the last year. Going to synagogue on a Friday night used to be such a pleasure for me, but recently has come to feel like a chore. The time I used to spend reading dR...And engagin...

You work that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth. Work is love made visible. Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet. Well, friends, this week has certainly not been what I thought it would be. At the D.C. JCC on Wednesday night. August 19, 2012 at 8:43 PM. Naomers. you are amazing! One day at a time. This is what I'm up to. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Day 88: Israel is a very small place. It's been a little while since I've updated - all sorts of things have been happening here! A few quick highlights include:. Ulpan classes are in full swing and are going very well! Hebrew is flooding back into my brain, which is a great feeling. I've started writing for the new Pardes student blog (along with seven or so other students), which you can read here. Israel is real (complicated). Since...

This Yeshiva Bachora: May 2010
http://yeshivabachora.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 31, 2010. Some anecdotes of my past few weeks:. 2 I stop to ask an older, religious-looking lady on the street for directions. She doesn't know, but she asks:. Are you getting married? Me: "לא. No.". Because I haven't found anyone to marry yet.". Do you want me to find you someone to marry? No, thanks.". How old are you, 25? No, 23.". Oh, that's ok then. You still have time." (pause) "Are you sure you don't want me to look for someone for you? Probably its a bit of both. Tuesday, May 4, 2010.

Monday, January 25, 2010. Sometimes, the rabbis were pretty funny. Three prime examples from yesterday's halacha (law) class. We were discussing whether or not you can ask/get a non-Jew to do something that you are forbidden to do on Shabbat. As the Gemorrah says, "פסיק רישא ולא ימות"-"Cut off the head and it won't die? You are effectively killing the chicken, and so you're not allowed. I heard a rumor that Eilat got 10 years worth of rain in about 24 hours. Thursday, January 7, 2010. What bothered me mo...
This Yeshiva Bachora: Bethlehem
http://yeshivabachora.blogspot.com/2010/06/bethlehem.html
Tuesday, June 8, 2010. I’m writing this from the Ben Gurion airport, where duty-free prices are in dollars, almost everyone speaks to me in English, and (except for a disproportionate number of seminary girls), it already feels like I’m not in Israel any more. We made our way to the Old City of Bethlehem, next to the Church of the Nativity, where we wandered around for a bit before entering the church. We pushed our way into the hot and crowded underground grotto where Jesus was born in a manger....Partn...

Wednesday, July 21, 2010. I'm home from Israel now, but here and there I might continue to use this blog to post Judaism and Israel related musings. On that note, here's something I wrote yesterday during the fast day of Tisha B'Av, commemorating the destruction of the 1st and 2nd Temples. I’ve never really connected to Tisha B’Av. The first time I observed it was the summer in high school when I was in Jerusalem. Maybe it’s because of Israel’s growing international isolation, or because I ju...I’m...

Thursday, October 22, 2009. Israeli Culture: Jekyll and Hyde? And other random musings from this week. So I know- I've fallen behind, and I've got a whole lot of updating to do about Yom Kippur and my trip to Egypt over Succot break. But in the meantime, here are some reflections from this week. You're not a customer! You think you can just come here and pee, is that it? Well, this isn't a public bathroom. Who do you think you are? Get out of here! Come sit in my sukkah with me on the holiday! I started ...

Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Tomorrow evening, I'll be learning extra hours as part of Pardes's Learn-a-Thon to support Haiti relief! Teachers have donated their time to teach extra evening classes on themes of Social Justice, charity to the poor, loving the stranger, etc. Students have pledged to spend extra hours studying, either in classes or on their own. What can you do? You can support the relief efforts in Haiti by sponsoring me for these extra hours of study I will be doing! Then I headed to Emek ...

Tuesday, November 24, 2009. When Carrying a Torah is Civil Disobedience- in the State of Israel. Women of the Wall met last Wednesday, and I and several other Pardes students went. The day before, I suddenly began to doubt why I was going. Was I going to pray, or to make a point? Or would I simply be praying with a group because I want to, because I believe it’s my right, regardless of the responses it provokes? Even getting dressed Wednesday morning was complicated. Do I wear a long skirt? The beginning...

Tuesday, June 8, 2010. The Jerusalem "Miss List". Random fun fact I just discovered: the Brussels airport has Greek Orthodox, Protestant, and Catholic chapels, a mosque, a synagogue (complete with an ark and a full set of Talmud Bavli! And a Humanist counselor. :-)]. What I will miss. 8226; The falafel—where else can I grab a yummy and sort-of healthy lunch for only 10 shekels (. 8226; The prayer options—approximately 12 synagogues/minyanim within a 15 minute walk. 8226; Speaking Hebrew. 8226; Being inst...

Monday, April 26, 2010. Some (very) random reflections. I still need to write about the second half of my Passover break, but I wanted to share with you some very brief and very random reflections I've had over the past few weeks. Daf Yomi is a practice of studying one daf (a full page of gemarra, front and back) every day. A person doing Daf Yomi takes 7 years to complete the entire Talmud. Just another reminder that we're practically in the desert. Do you have a weapon? Two weeks ago, I went with my fr...

A Wandering Feast – Adventures in food, fitness and wanderlust
Adventures in food, fitness and wanderlust. Sri Lanka Day 2. We packed a lot into half a day in Colombo yesterday and took a car in the afternoon to Kandy. It’s only 140km but the drive took more than three and half hours. The idea was that we spend the night in Kandy and head out this morning for a four day trek through the Knuckles Mountain Range (more on that later). Five highlights and observations:. Hoppers, string hoppers, dosa and more for breakfast. A typical vegetarian lunch. December 30, 2015.

One day at a time. This is what I'm up to. Saturday, December 22, 2012. I'm writing this from the lounge at the Central London Youth Hostel (a lovely place, by the way - would definitely recommend! There's a football match on tv (ATH vs. ZAR - side note, turns out ATH stands for Athletic Club Bilbao, which.aren't they all. Is this one team particularly MORE athletic than the rest? If so, shouldn't they have won enough games that I would have heard about them? I keep finding myself staring at hugely expen...

Musings from the mind of a stay-at-home Mom and procrastinaholic. Saturday, May 30, 2015. I might post again soon. Does this thing still work? Links to this post. Saturday, November 02, 2013. Trick or Treat- 5k style. I find it funny that my last blog post was shortly after I had officially decided to run a 5k before the end of this year. I did it. Today. Did I train consistently? Hardly. I am walking and running proof that something is better than nothing. Something is ALWAYS better than nothing. I don'...
