Bean and Pie: With or Without You
http://beanandpie.blogspot.com/2012/12/with-or-without-you.html
A little blog about food and family. Tuesday, December 4, 2012. With or Without You. I can no longer move forward emotionally until I face my demons. Let’s get this skeleton out of it’s cold cold closet: I have a difficult relationship with ice. As Bono so meaningfully crooned: "I can’t live. With Or Without You.". Given my addiction to iced tea, ice cubes play no small role in my daily life. So it is not surprising that I have strong emotions about these frozen modern marvels. But what to do, what to do?
Bean and Pie: Hamentashen, Rugelach and a Houseful of Cookies
http://beanandpie.blogspot.com/2012/03/hamentashen-rugelach-and-houseful-of.html
A little blog about food and family. Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Hamentashen, Rugelach and a Houseful of Cookies. What kind of cruel joke is this to force upon my waistline? I was obligated this week to bake two. There was no way I was going to let this annual opportunity slip by. And then there are the thoughtful folks at Tuesdays with Dorie. If you don’t know what that looks like, picture a 5-quart mixing bowl, overflowing with fats. (Really! Guess what Mom sent in her care package this week? We tried some...
Bean and Pie: It Seemed Like a Good Idea
http://beanandpie.blogspot.com/2014/12/it-seemed-like-good-idea.html
A little blog about food and family. Tuesday, December 16, 2014. It Seemed Like a Good Idea. Here's another "cookie" from Baking With Julia. Mint-chocolate nightcaps. The nightcap refers to the 'hat' of ganache on top. Cute, huh? Mint, chocolate, cookies, ganache. What could go wrong? Turns out, quite a bit. When you're hoping for a gussied up homemade mint oreo* and you end up with this, there's bound to be some disappointment among the wee ones (and among the big folks too). I can't remember the last t...
Bean and Pie: Farewell Rosie, Hello Matzah
http://beanandpie.blogspot.com/2015/04/farewell-rosie-hello-matzah.html
A little blog about food and family. Thursday, April 23, 2015. Farewell Rosie, Hello Matzah. The model for Rosie the Riveter. Died today, at age 92. Besides being a woman who deals with holes on a regular basis, what, you may ask, is the classic icon’s connection with this week’s baking project: matzah? I’ll tell you: BICEPS, baby, BICEPS! Despite the muscle needed to roll out the dough, I’d highly recommend that you make your own matzah for a Passover seder next year. It’s worth the extr...Really is qui...
Bean and Pie: About Me
http://beanandpie.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html
A little blog about food and family. Welcome to Bean and Pie! I'm glad you found me. A home baker who dropped out from a corporate writing career to pursue much more lucrative activities, like raising kids and teaching Jazzercise. I fritter away may days playing with my children, playing with dough, and playing with words. In between, I dance. Since February 2011, I've participated in an online blogging/baking group, called " Tuesdays with Dorie. Edited by Dorie Greenspan. I believe food should be fun an...

The Double Trouble Kitchen. Come along with me and my twins as we bake through some wonderful cookbook recipes. About Me (and them). TWD – Nectarine Upside-Down Chiffon Cake. The Double Trouble Kitchen. On September 4, 2012. A little while ago I told my kids that they cannot turn 5. They know I am partly kidding. I love 4 1/2. There are so many things they can do without me and they are cute and inquisitive. It is really the best age. Well, she wanted the same butterfly this time. Is it still me? To read...

I like to cook. and i like to bake my husband and friends can barely keep up. luckily, i have two nosy cats to help in the kitchen. rioja loves dinnertime. and manchego likes to tell me what's what. Twd: baking with julia: summer fruit pie. In my book, pie is a winter food, best left for graham cracker crusts and creamy pumpkin filling with the warmth of the oven and scent of nutmeg making a cheery end to a cold and dark evening. Why would you even wish to try? 0160; thats a different story. And now back...

TWD – French Apple Tart. TWD – French Apple Tart. January 22, 2013. This week’s recipe for our TWD Baking with Julia group is French Apple Tart. For the recipe please visit Laws of the Kitchen. This is an absolutely beautiful tart that really presents well. It really looks a lot more difficult than it is. My husband came home to find this on the counter and couldn’t believe his good fortune. Surprise. No special reason, just another Tuesday baking project. (He really likes this group! To give it some body.

Χάος chao tohu अस तव यस तत xaoc. Phylloccine Ice Cream Sandwiches. This week our Tuesday with Dorie baking group is making ice cream sandwiches with phyllo. The name is quite fancy but the dessert is a snap to assemble. The recipe is by contributing baker Gale Gand. Hmmm…Not sure I was crazy to eat this particular combination of flavors and textures, but it was fun to make this dessert. My mom actually makes baklava with phyllo fettuccine and it works out quite well! June 17, 2014 at 7:57 AM. Fill in you...

Rustic Potato Loaves | The Family That Bakes Together...
https://thefamilythatbakestogether.wordpress.com/2013/04/02/rustic-potato-loaves
The Family That Bakes Together…. Five women, three generations, one cookbook. In Baking With Julia. Asymp; 19 Comments. Floury russet potatoes were a staple of my childhood. Baked, mashed, or boiled, they were on the table several times a week, until they were supplanted by Yukon golds. These days, they’re mostly forgotten in our houses, with so many varieties of potatoes grown locally. Sieglinde. Is my favourite variety lately and I’m looking forward to seeing them in the market again this summer. April...

In the kitchen, garden and beyond. Slow down, detour ahead. April 29, 2013 6 Comments. I had some quiet time on my own strolling in a beautiful and funky Venice Beach neighborhood under a clear blue sky. Venice can also be charmingly retro and just plain bizarre. Winter – tangerines, grapefruits, a pomelo (of course these don’t even grow in my state), potatoes. Spring – mizuna, ruby streaks mustard, arugula, sugar snap peas, radishes, baby turnips, spring onions, spring garlic, strawberries. Sister and n...
Recipe 1: White Loaves | Trumping the Tart
https://trumpingthetart.wordpress.com/2012/02/06/recipe-1-white-loaves
A tale of tasty trials. Recipe 1: White Loaves. Hannah: Day one of the baking challenge. White loaves. Jessica and I go to the grocery store to buy all the necessary ingredients. Yeast. Check. Bread flour. Check. Unsalted butter. Check. Seems pretty simple. Jessica starts in on the challenge. First problem, we don’t have a baking thermometer. No problem we just use a human thermometer (after having been thoroughly cleaned.) Serves the same relative purpose, right? Jessica demonstrating her domestic bliss!
Champagne Supernova Naan-sense | Trumping the Tart

A tale of tasty trials. This week with TWD is Oasis Naan. I can’t say it was my Wonderwall, but it was definitely tasty. I am ignoring your groaning and will naan-theless press on with a recap of this tasty trial. According to instructions, we mixed the dough, stirring in the same direction, and then began to knead. The dough was supposed to become easy to handle (naan-adhesive, anyone? By now you shoulda, somehow, realized what you gotta do. We will try again, Oasis. Newer Entry →. Kind of scary 🙂.

bean & peanut – daily adventures in our blissful little world
Daily adventures in our blissful little world. March 18, 2018. March 15, 2018. On Monday we had a random day off from school, from both schools. I booked a quick dentist appointment in SF, thinking they had school. Haha. So, to make the most of it, I brought them both with me to my appointment and planned a fun day out around it. PS I know the shot of her (2nd-row middle) is blurry, but I love it as that SO represents her spirt – always happy, always in motion, always beautiful. March 17, 2018. Whenever ...

After the Garden
Thursday, January 24, 2013. New Year, Back to Work, Back to the Garden,Back to the Blogging. Day to day I figure it out. Let's see, Torin learned how to eat food, sit, crawl, walk, run and started talking in the last year. Pretty crazy! I mostly just seem to be holding onto his shirt tails as he flies along, both literally and figuratively. He is the apple of my eye and the vice grip around me knees yelling "MUM-EEEE! Me and my sweet pea last week in the wintery weather (brrr, 55! Monday, February 6, 2012.
