Technology, business and other musings. I was working on the design of a small site where we have public display of information in one format and a set of administrative screens that allow authorised users to create and edit the information. I know , I thought, this is a perfect case for MVC Areas and boy was I wrong! I should have realised that the problems had started when all the routing started playing up. Route names must be unique across *all* areas. Did the MVC team think about the open-closed.

Career planning: Where do old devs go to? - Ayende @ Rahien

https://ayende.com/blog/168802/career-planning-where-do-old-devs-go-to

Founder of Hibernating Rhinos LTD. You can reach me by phone or email:. Where do old devs go to? Time to read 3 min. We are pretty much always looking for new people, what is holding us back from expanding even more rapidly is the time that it takes to get to grips with our codebases and what we do here. But that also means that we usually have at least one outstanding job offer available, because it takes a long time to fill it. But that isn’t the topic for this post. That I’m seeing. Where. Out of the ...

Arduino MIDI Foot-controller Project. So we’ve got a nice Hammond sloped case ordered and are awaiting it’s arrival sometime this week. With that, we’ll slap 10 heavy-duty push-button foot-switches on the top face, maybe a half-dozen 1/4″ pedal jacks on the sides and a MIDI out jack on the back. Voila! A 10-button foot-controller with inputs for additional foot pedal inputs (switch or continuous, who knows? This entry was posted in Projects. We’re working on a new, dedicated blog space, here at blog.

Skip to main content. The 'Rewrite' vs the 'Refactor'. March 07, 2018. Starting out with Kotlin and Android Architecture Components. March 03, 2018. Just recently Ive been to a few talks about Kotlin. And been reading up about Android Architectural Components. Ive also had an idea for a really basic app playing around in my mind for a while, so it seems a perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. Ive already had a play with LiveData / ViewModel, updating the Big Nerd Ranch Quiz. Having not co...

Tamalpais's Shadow

June 21, 2015. Made a trip to the hippie wonderland of Mount Shasta. I've always wanted to go. This is more than 10 years in the making. I've heard that the number of crystal healers per square mile up there rivals the density anywhere else on earth. I think it might be true. There's no doubt about the gravity of the mountain, whose mass and height helps water 75 percent of California's needs. Yes, you heard that right. The store sells "prana produce.". In the next field over from the little concert, the...

Technology, business and other musings. Dependency injection for SpecFlow with Unity 4. One of my current projects is using SpecFlow for testing some complex security logic; there are lots of scenarios so the BDD style of testing is well suited to the problem. I wanted to use the same style of testing for some integration testing where the client is talking to my API but hit a problem of how/where to construct the container as even the client library uses dependency injection to construct itself. What we...

Blood, Sweat, and Code. Android Layout Simplified – 1.) LayoutParams. March 21, 2012. I’ve been doing a lot of Android development lately, and I feel like there’s a huge lack of information about how layouts actually work in Android. All over the place you find questions like “How do you use X” and the accepted answer is always “Oh, X sucks, use Y instead” (I’m looking at you StackOverflow). X doesn’t suck. You just don’t know how to use X. Imagine I were to write a. So instead, each view has a. On view ...
