Bookish Geek - Book Review Geekery

Review: Love Hate & Other Filters by Samira Ahmed. Love, Hate and Other Filters. On January 16th 2018. A searing #OwnVoices coming-of-age debut in which an Indian-American Muslim teen confronts Islamophobia and a reality she can neither explain nor escape- perfect for fans of Angie Thomas, Jacqueline Woodson, and Adam Silvera. I will confess that I was all ready to give this book 5 stars. But then I logged onto GoodReads to see what my peers were saying, and I realized that in my ignorance of the cul...

Bookish Geek: February 2012

http://bookishgeek.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 8, 2012. The Fault In Our Stars - A Review. John Green has always been one of my favorite authors. I first became a fan of his when watching the YouTube channel he shares with his brother Hank, the vlogbrothers. At that time, he had two books out, one of which was the (sometimes in)famous Looking For Alaska. I have since read all of his books, though in my mind none were quite. As good as Alaska. Until I finished The Fault In Our Stars. From then on, Hazel can't quite make herself ret...

Bookish Geek: Kernel Seasons Review-A-Palooza: Nacho Cheddar Seasoning

http://bookishgeek.com/2013/09/kernel-seasons-review-palooza-nacho.html

Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Kernel Seasons Review-A-Palooza: Nacho Cheddar Seasoning. It was bound to happen, ladies and gentlemen: our first dissenting opinion. Sometimes I prefer just a daub of flavor, right where it packs a punch. It's just not for me, and that's okay. I'll definitely eat it, I might just have to ask him to lay off one corner of the popcorn bucket and be a little lighter-handed with it, haha. Taste: 9.5/10 from Richard, 8/10 from me. Practicality: 10/10 across the board. Http:/ www...

Bookish Geek: August 2013

http://bookishgeek.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 26, 2013. Bout of Books 8.0: Days 4-7. I wanted to read a whole bunch, and ended up reading a decent amount without any actual, real concerted effort! And it all works out anyway! A lot of people go into Bout of Books with the expectation to read 4, 5, maybe even 10 books that week! And they might, they just might. But me? I went into Bout of Books with the pure intention to simply read more. Point blank. Simple, honest, and pure: read more. Read 300 pages over the course of the week.

Bookish Geek: Tone Petal Soft Body Wash

http://bookishgeek.com/2014/04/tone-petal-soft-body-wash.html

Thursday, April 10, 2014. Tone Petal Soft Body Wash. I love a good shower. One of my favorite things after a long, hard day is to get in the shower and just revel in the warm water. Unless it is summer, in which case I am conflicted and equal parts wanting to be warm and relaxed and wanting to be in a deep freezer - living in Georgia makes it difficult sometimes, y'all. Apparently, they can. What this Tone product does is add moisture to your skin in all the right places, and it doesn't take any away, ei...

Bookish Geek: April 2013

http://bookishgeek.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 30, 2013. A to Z Challenge: Z-Ya! I am in awe that I managed to complete this blogging challenge. I thought for sure that I would start it, do maybe four or five days, and then sort of fizzle out with the rest of the crowd that decides to quit - consciously or otherwise- a week in. It's easy for the first couple of days, but after awhile, it sure gets hard! The annual reflection post is one where you're meant to write about what you've done that surprises you, but frankly, the whole thing.

LJ Idol - Season 9 - Week 17 - "Scare Quotes" - Patricia

http://bookishgeek.livejournal.com/220388.html

August 12th, 2014. LJ Idol - Season 9 - Week 17 - "Scare Quotes". There is something prevalent in our society that pushes against being alone. Alone is sad. It says. Alone is pathetic, alone is you and your knitting and 50 cats. Alone, is it? But I digress). Nobody should want to be alone. The hivemind thinks - alone is desperation and reeks of depression, takeout containers and pizza boxes. All choose what to do when alone. Lets make alone a time of peace and quiet, of reflection and freedom. I tried to...

August 26th, 2014. LJ Idol - Season 9 - Week 19 - Kindling. My name is Patricia, I am 25 years old, and I am obese. There are many things wrong with the above sentence, though in all practicality they fall into the second two-thirds of it. (While my first name is not the most perfect, Ive grown into it). Obese at 25? These are both truths, and - sad to say - its taken me a long time to come to terms with this. Bad day at work? Bag of chips. A typical drive-through order? A heaping gallon of lighter fluid.

http://bookishgeek.livejournal.com/216024.html

July 10th, 2014. LJ Idol - Season 9 - Week 14 - Confession from the Chair. You’ve probably seen one in more thrift stores than you can care to remember, looking appropriately stained and worn down by the grating sands of time: an old padded recliner, resting unassumingly in a corner, not taking up very much attention at all. His chair lies, waiting, not asking for much. A sliver of sunlight from the back porch, some reading light from the side table, the rare slip of a drop of someone’s misguided bev...

bookish girl | Jane Gleeson-White's blog about reading and writing books.

Jane Gleeson-White's blog about reading and writing books. Purpose 2016 and signing off from bookishgirl. For the last year I’ve been thinking about the purpose of this blog. I started bookishgirl in December 2010. To blog about reading and writing, about the books I love and the books I’m reading. I also planned to write about economics and the environment, because in 2010 they were the subject of my next book. Well that next book was. Which led me into the underbelly of global capitalism and to write.
