Carolyn in Aotearoa

Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Christchurch, One Year Later. I haven't written in my blog since I arrived home in Canada last March; after all, it is titled "Carolyn in Aotearoa", not "Carolyn in Canada". But I feel compelled to write today, as it is February 22nd in New Zealand: the one-year anniversary of the Christchurch Earthquake. It's 12:51pm here in Canada. Kia ora. Christchurch. Be well! You are in my thoughts today. I am there with you. Sunday, March 13, 2011. We eventually gave up, hiked back up t...

Carolyn in Aotearoa: November 2010

http://carolyninaotearoa.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Sheepskins, Scones, and Seafood. And the hassle of moving two bags around, I've decided to lighten my load to just my backpack and hiking backpack. After all, I packed for all sorts of weather, and fortunately I have the option of leaving things at Fay and Frank's. Stefan has also kindly offered to take some things home back to Canada for me (a few souvenirs I have bought that I don't want to lug around). I can't imagine where that's coming from! And The Return of the King.

Carolyn in Aotearoa: October 2010

http://carolyninaotearoa.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 31, 2010. If everybody had a twelve-gauge, and a surfboard, too.". Happy Hallowe’en from down under! Except New Zealanders don’t celebrate Hallowe’en for the most part; some dress up and have a party, but trick-or-treating is not common around here, and it has been rather refreshing not to see supermarkets hawking crappy plastic decorations. I do miss pumpkins, however: I feel like I should be carving a jack-o-lantern right now. However, I am not too sad, because. I learned to surf today!

Carolyn in Aotearoa: "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."

http://carolyninaotearoa.blogspot.com/2011/03/in-hole-in-ground-there-lived-hobbit.html

Friday, March 11, 2011. In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.". After filming was complete the original contract stipulated the sets had to be completely destroyed, and the land returned to its original state. Demolition of Hobbiton proceeded, with the mill, pub, market, and bridge razed to the ground, and about half the hobbit holes destroyed before inclement weather forced the crews to stop because the work became too dangerous. In the meantime, The Fellowship of the Ring. Must not be disclosed.

Carolyn in Aotearoa: Te Papa, Featherston, Waipawa, and Napier (and Motion Sickness).

http://carolyninaotearoa.blogspot.com/2011/03/te-papa-featherston-waipawa-and-napier.html

Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Te Papa, Featherston, Waipawa, and Napier (and Motion Sickness). After checking out of the motel we went and visited Te Papa. And Blood, Earth, Fire. Even though I had seen all three exhibits before. I found them interesting the second time around, and learned a few new things. We stopped for a picnic lunch at 2pm just outside of Featherston at the site of the Featherston Military Camp. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Piha Beach, and Haere ra, Aotearoa. For Now. :-).

Carolyn in Aotearoa: March 2011

Sunday, March 13, 2011. Piha Beach, and Haere ra, Aotearoa. For Now. :-). Well, this is likely my last blog post from New Zealand. In fact, I'm kind of in the no-man's-land of the International Departures shopping mecca of the Auckland Airport as I type this, so I'm not sure if this can still technically be classified as New Zealand Soil. I'll just start typing about today, and we'll see how far I get before my parents and I get called for our final boarding call. Add on top of that your typical windy, n...

A Semester in The Gambia

A Semester in The Gambia. Tuesday, June 1, 2010. This Time for Africa". 1 The smiles. It's not called "The Smiling Coast of Africa" for nothing. 2 The sun. Every day was sunny, hot, bright, and sweaty. 3 Fresh fruit stands everywhere. Not only are they colorful sights along the roads, but they also always have fresh fruit that's ready to eat. Instant snack. 7 My house. Our sanctuary in The Gambia when we got overwhelmed. I will definitely miss Mohammed, Haddy, and Sainabou. They took care of ...2 The mon...

Buenos Aires | a chronicle of my trip to Argentina & updates about how God is working there

A chronicle of my trip to Argentina and updates about how God is working there. Feliz Navidad… almost. It’s been a busy few days here in BA. First of all, the Pastors’ Dinner was awesome! By Richard Foster. Kevin really enjoyed reading and learning from that book and thought these pastors might as well. (I may try to read it when I get home). For the first event like this in BA, I think that it went awesome! The pastors participated and we got to know a lot of them. Merry Christmas from the Baggetts!

Carolyn in Buenos Aires | My Semester Abroad

Carolyn in Buenos Aires. May 27, 2012 · 2:21 PM. First off, I can’t believe that I’m writing this post from the airport! My time here in Argentina went by amazingly fast, but before I get all sentimental and reflective, I want to talk about my last big trip to the province of Salta. The trip started out with a few hiccups, but ended very well! 25 hours on that busI was ready to kill someone. Sunday morning I got picked up at 9 for my three day and 2 night horseback riding extravaganza! The next day I lef...

An American Girl in Beijing

An American Girl in Beijing. Friday, March 7, 2008. To this, I smiled and laughed it away. But, inside, I was secretly very happy as 1) my Chinese passed for a native Taiwanese speaker, and 2) this is the 2nd taxi driver in recent days that has said this! And, Beijing taxi drivers are notorious for being very difficult to communicate with since they have a very heavy Beijing accent. So, hooray! Thursday, February 28, 2008. So Many "Must-Dos," So Little Time! In January, it took a few weeks to get adjuste...

Carolyn's Adventures in Cairo!

Carolyn's Adventures in Cairo! Wednesday, December 9, 2009. I've been asked by a lot of people, in the course of my four or five months here, what my favorite things about Egypt are. In response to the question Autumn and I decided to come up with an "Egypt: Top 5! Could we really think of five things that encompassed all the new and exciting experiences we had lived through during our stay in this exotic country? Turns out we couldn't. But we thought of three. So here they are! Carolyn and Autumn's Top 3.
