Cat VI: January 2013

http://cat6biker.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Adventures of a RACING GREYHOUNDS puppy. Saturday, January 26, 2013. Interesting data point from last year's riding - 1 beer = 8.0 miles on the road, or 3.25 miles on the mountain bike. Probably skewed that much due to more race training and racing on the mountain bike, more touring and commuting rides on the road. My Garmin Edge 500. Tracks heart rate, position, distance, speed, cadence, elevation, could do power if I had a power meter (but Strava. Rebooting the blog, what the! Am I getting myself into?

Cat VI: April 2013

http://cat6biker.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Adventures of a RACING GREYHOUNDS puppy. Monday, April 15, 2013. 23 March 2013 Race 1 - Barry-Roubaix. Barry-Roubaix roads, Thursday before the race. One race down. The 2013 season started March 23 at Barry-Roubaix, the Killer Gravel Road Race. After a couple of test rides on dirt roads around home I decided to take the Anthem 29er, but on what tires? A nice place to change, and no last minute rush to get to registration. By 10am Saturday, it was looking like the best day of the week for a dirt road race...

Cat VI: Numbers don't lie

http://cat6biker.blogspot.com/2013/02/numbers-don-lie.html

Adventures of a RACING GREYHOUNDS puppy. Monday, February 11, 2013. Interesting event with the team Sunday - 1km on a CompuTrainer. To get your average power for 1 minute, then onto a scale to determine watts/kg. The bottom line - 418 watts, 214 pounds/97 kg, 4.3 watts/kg, 38th of 39 Greyhounds. So, what's realistic for me? The big drop between 15 and 20 second is probably a transition from sitting to standing. Or standing to sitting. I was already seeing stars at that point. Strength training and yoga a...

Black Dog: When starting a new project, RTFM first!

http://blackdogroboticsblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/when-starting-new-project-rtfm-first.html

Thursday, February 14, 2013. When starting a new project, RTFM first! How do you turn this. Short answer is you don't, you order a Computrainer from Racermate. They charge you around $1600 and then you sell the old one on Craig's List. Long answer is you don't, but I think you can get some of the same features by automating the old mag trainer. Equipment list is:. Arduino with USB or XBee communication to a PC for data logging/display. Reed switch speed and cadence pickups, suitably debounced. How many t...

Black Dog: June 2010

http://blackdogroboticsblog.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 26, 2010. Getting ready for Maker Fair Detroit, Part 1. Nothing like a deadline for motivation to complete a project, and I NOW have a deadline - the Detroit Maker Fair. On July 31-August 1 at Henry Ford Museum. My main goal is to get some more booth space for the Frog Force. Exhibit, but I'd like to get some of my own stuff out of the notebook and into hardware and software. First up is the Coasterbot, which has a couple of improvements since the last post. Next up is an Arduino based LED...

Black Dog: July 2010

http://blackdogroboticsblog.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 27, 2010. We interrupt this blog for a short rant. GM has finally defeated me in my quest to change my own oil. Should be easy - a13mm socket, a wrench filter, a drain pan. Maybe a socket extension. Better sell it before it needs new spark plugs! This weekend is Detroit Maker Fair at Henry Ford - going to help the Frog Force, Novi FLL teams, and show off some of my stuff as well. Should be fun! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Black Dog: April 2010

http://blackdogroboticsblog.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 20, 2010. The beginnings of a state machine. The Coasterbot continues to progress nicely. I have to enjoy it while it lasts, I'm sure there's some big roadblock waiting out there somewhere. Looks like 10 1/2 to me. . I do need to come up with better power connections for the IR sensors, they keep falling off. And the start switch appears to be a little sticky. Minor issues. Still looking out for that roadblock. Coaster Master I2C 04-20-10. Coaster Motor I2C 04-20-10. Monday, April 19, 2010.

Black Dog: Rebooting another blog

http://blackdogroboticsblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/rebooting-another-blog.html

Tuesday, February 12, 2013. It's not that I haven't been making stuff. I just haven't been making a lot of my own robots lately. This is mostly due to being involved with FIRST. And specifically getting the FTC. FIRST Tech Challenge) middle school pilot program started with FIRST in Michigan. And I've started home brewing beer. Other possible projects include some FTC training materials (you have to go into witness protection to get completely out of FIRST I think), PowerWheels. Board and K40 Tower.

Black Dog: It might actually work

http://blackdogroboticsblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/it-might-actually-work.html

Friday, May 14, 2010. It might actually work. A hacked up old mechanical mouse, two Lego pieces, a bit of hot glue, a piece of double sided tape and there you have it - a functional Coasterbot wheel encoder. Finished encoder (left), parts required (center). Or at least it looks like it might be functional - the Lego pieces will make it easy to build into the Coasterbot drivertrain, and the Arduino gets counts from the encoder. There are still a few things to test, including but not limited to:. It might ...
