RunnerByNight: September 2010
http://runnerbynight.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 29, 2010. 9/29/10 - The final chapter. Or maybe it was my recent obsession with perfecting my resume and CV as I begin to figure out where the next stage of life will be (this week the list includes San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Research Triangle Park, NC). I see the writing on the wall that I’ll have to get a real job soon…. This weekend, there is one focus – Start slow. Drink like a fish. Eat like a horse. Run like a turtle (ala Roy Heger). Is the third time really a charm?

Run Mikey P: Run for Regis 2011
http://runmikeyp.blogspot.com/2011/01/run-for-regis-2011.html
Monday, January 17, 2011. Run for Regis 2011. The 2011 Run for Regis is one of those runs that will stick with me for quite some time. It was an epic run. The conditions were about as bad as they could be while still allowing us to actually run. It was like running on loose sand for 33 miles. In short, it was awesome! Incredible… What an effort from a young guy who undoubtedly has a future in this great sport as well. January 18, 2011 at 7:53 AM. January 18, 2011 at 4:36 PM. January 18, 2011 at 4:46 PM.

Run Mikey P: A Quick Grindstone Recap
http://runmikeyp.blogspot.com/2010/10/quick-grindstone-recap.html
Tuesday, October 5, 2010. A Quick Grindstone Recap. Shout outs to the other Ohio runners that represented so well at Grindstone - it turned out that I was the only person who had a bad day. In order of placing here's how the other runners faired (times are approximantions as results are not posted). Sandy Nypaver dominated the womens race winning by nearly 4 hours (23:05 if I'm not mistaken), setting a new course record! Dave now has one race to complete the Beast Series, the Hellgate 100k . Shout ou...

RunnerByNight: April 2011
http://runnerbynight.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 8, 2011. I was not in a good place from the start. I was toeing the line and viewing the race as another item to cross off the list. I’ve always been a bit of an over-achiever, but the balancing act of writing my dissertation, finishing out experiments (which never seem to end) and submitting papers, finding a job, selling the condo, attempting to be a supportive husband to my expecting wife, and training for a race was pushing the limit. Six miles into the race, I was miserable. Early on I...

Tales of the Trail Goddess: November 2010
http://ultranewby.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Tales of the Trail Goddess. Monday, November 29, 2010. My week of Inside Workouts. The white-tailed deer is the most popular game animal in Ohio, frequently pursued by generations of hunters. Ohio ranks 8th nationally in annual hunting-related sales and 10th in the number of jobs associated with the hunting-related industry. Each year, hunting has a $859 million economic impact in Ohio through the sale of equipment, fuel, food, lodging and more. So, my week of indoor workouts:. And there is a provision t...

Tales of the Trail Goddess: Coyote Stalking
http://ultranewby.blogspot.com/2011/04/coyote-stalking.html
Tales of the Trail Goddess. Thursday, April 28, 2011. My husband and I were out on the trails this morning. We dug up some ramps (wild leeks) to both eat and plant on our land in the hopes of a little ramp-grove of our own. Other than it being very windy, nice day out. We saw about a dozen deer on our hike. Then we spotted what I thought was a fox, the husband said was a coyote. It was too far on the hill above to really see well. Tales of the Trail Goddess: September 2010
http://ultranewby.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Tales of the Trail Goddess. Thursday, September 30, 2010. The FAA has a right of way, a road, through our property. The road leads to a VOR. Navigational beacon on the adjoining property. The gravelled road is gated and locked. It was where I first began my work out journey. Back in the day, I would walk the road about three times almost every day. Just walking-walking people! And watching portion size ( ala. WW) helped me shed 75 pounds. So I set out in the morning, armed with the Zune. So I think this ...

Tales of the Trail Goddess: March 2011
http://ultranewby.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Tales of the Trail Goddess. Thursday, March 31, 2011. The Barkley Marathon is this weekend. I have several friends entered and will be rooting for them to go.some of the distance. The Barkley is not as secret as it once was. Upon becoming an ultra runner, one quickly learns of "The Barkley". He's been at the Barkley, completed two laps.he's a Barkley runner. Pretty generous time allowance, right? Only nine runners have completed the distance in race history. It has 59,100 feet of climb (and 59,100 feet o...
