Chasing Carly: March 2015

http://chasingcarly.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Monday, March 30, 2015. Three weeks in Kumala: part 2. I've just spent three days in lock down. That was the best thing that could have happened for me, as I got to do nothing but sleep, read, and rest. Delightful. Which means white man. The little kids were always so excited to see any white foreigners, and would follow me around. So so cute. And on my last day, while I was sad to leave the team I wa...

Chasing Carly: One week in Freetown

http://chasingcarly.blogspot.com/2015/03/one-week-in-freetown.html

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Sunday, March 1, 2015. One week in Freetown. My days at the office (where we get out temperature taken and recorded, then wash our hands with soap and water before we can enter) have been filled with briefing meetings and reading through a lot of documents and budgets, and on the one occassion I managed to leave early enough for a little stroll on the beach, I came across this:. Today I'm heading up t...

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Wednesday, May 6, 2015. I've been bad again. Sorry. I still have to put up some reflections on the three weeks I spent in Bombali district, which while it was easier for living, was just as challenging work wise as Kumala was. I'll get around to that at some point. Before heading home, so that will be nice too. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Adventures in the Air. Boys and their toys.

Chasing Carly: September 2014

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Thursday, September 18, 2014. We then did some practice drills in the shallow water, which included inflating and deflating the buoyancy vest, dropping the regulator, finding it, clearing it and putting it back in and also how to clear the mask if water got inside (I would never have thought it possible to do underwater! That's me on the left, notice how clear the water is! Sunday, September 7, 2014.

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Monday, March 31, 2014. It seems ridiculous to me that it was about this time two years ago that Jules and I went to Japan to celebrate her birthday.time really does fly! Anyways, today's Julie's birthday and I just wanted to give her a special shout out as she's one of the best friends a girl could ever want or need! I don't know how I came across the 100 Happy Days. Be in a better mood every day.

Travel Tails: August 2012

http://thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Wow, I really have been bad with my travel tails over the last year - and there have been so many! I'm committing myself to catching up on quite a few, they won't be in order of when they happened, I'll try to mix it up a bit. Considering I've spent much of the past 12 months in Africa you can expect quite a few exotic animals, and some less so as well. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Travel Tails: The Usual Suspects

http://thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-usual-suspects.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Thursday, October 25, 2012. The Nairobi National Park is about 30 minutes away from the city centre, so going for an afternoon safari is completely feasible, and a much more exciting Sunday drive than I ever went on as a kid! See much more than monkeys and crocodiles, but it was still pretty cool to do a walking safari. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Travel template. Travel Tails: August 2010

http://thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Our guide was a man named Justice, who'd been a safari guide for 45 years, and I jokingly demanded that he find me a rhino and baby, along with basically every other baby animal I could rattle off. I'd been joking about all of them (of course, secretly hoping to catch a glimpse of the Big 5) but Justice delivered. Justice spotted a "crash" of rhinos (I just googled the collective noun for rhinos and this is it! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Travel Tails: October 2012

http://thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Thursday, October 25, 2012. I was wandering around enjoying the sunlight when I spotted this guy who'd found his own little bit of shade, and didn't look like he was in any hurry to move. A very lazy cat. The Nairobi National Park is about 30 minutes away from the city centre, so going for an afternoon safari is completely feasible, and a much more exciting Sunday drive than I ever went on as a kid! Travel Tails: February 2010

http://thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Sunday, February 28, 2010. The 4WD trip I did in Bolivia was perhaps the highlight of my time in South America. The scenery over four days changed from rolling velvety hills, to jagged mountains, to flamingo-filled lagoons, to beautiful snow-capped mountains. Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Wednesday, February 10, 2010. I remember writing a blog post. About this pig, which went along the lines of "I saw a tail swishing from around the c...

Travel Tails: March 2010

http://thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Sunday, March 28, 2010. I love this photo. This was towards the end of the Bolivian outback adventure, in the wide open plains between the salt flats and the town of Uyuni. This baby llama had wandered a little way away from its mother, but as our car got closer the mother came running. You can see above that her head has turned, just moments before she came to protect her baby. I love the sky, I love the baby's little shadow. I love this photo. One tragic morning...

Travel Tails: November 2010

http://thetraveltails.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Animal encounters from around the world. Tuesday, November 2, 2010. I apologise, it's been so long since I put up any travel tails. There really haven't been too many in recent months, so I'm giving you a double! Perhaps now they've brought the donkeys in the building might actually get finished! The streets of Shela are narrow and mostly sandy, and around almost any corner there are donkeys. I liked the little ones. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

You (and I) never know where I'm going to be next. Stories from the field. What does an Aid Worker pack? Tuesday, October 3, 2017. My how the weeks have sped past! It's a bit hard to believe, but I'll be finishing up at the end of next week! This is what it looks like to collect water. A whole bunch of jerry cans lined up, waiting in turn to be filled. It's usually women and girls who do the water collection which can be a dangerous task when the water trucks show up late and it's dark. On Monday I had t...

Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Although we weren't able to find out the sex yet, the good news is that baby is perfect, healthy and growing. I can't believe that I am almost halfway done with my pregnancy, and baby doesn't look like a little blob any longer! We will go back in for another ultrasound in a few weeks and hopefully baby will cooperate during that scan. Apparently I did the same thing, what a little stinker! Wednesday, January 27, 2010.
