Claire's Culinary Adventures: End of season nasturtium pesto
http://clairesculinaryadventures.blogspot.com/2012/11/end-of-season-nasturtium-pesto.html
Cooking inspired by growing food in the garden. Wednesday, 28 November 2012. End of season nasturtium pesto. There's a big frost coming tonight, hopefully it will warm a little during the day tomorrow, but I fear its the last chance saloon for those yummy nasturtium leaves. I finished work at 4.15pm today so I thought if I hurry home I may be able to harvest those leaves in the light. Sadly it was dark by 4.45pm so it was a job to be done with my trusty head torch! Claire's Culinary Adventures: May 2012
http://clairesculinaryadventures.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Cooking inspired by growing food in the garden. Wednesday, 9 May 2012. From day to day my sourdough starter went through various changes. As in the instructions I followed these were only described as lively and not so lively, I thought I would document them for any one else who wants to make their own starter and wants an indication of what to expect. The starter was really starting get very active by this time with masses of large bubbles a bit like the size of bubbles babies blow in the mouths. Th...
Claire's Culinary Adventures: Chard and Calendula Salad
http://clairesculinaryadventures.blogspot.com/2011/07/chard-and-calendula-salad.html
Cooking inspired by growing food in the garden. Sunday, 31 July 2011. Chard and Calendula Salad. It must be the sunny weather inspiring me to make sunny looking salads. Here's the second salad of the day to accompany my evening meal:. Baby rainbow chard leaves and calendula petals (also known as pot marigold or english marigold). All the ingredients fresh from the garden and packed full of vitamins and minerals. Something else to distract impatience while waiting for those tomatoes to ripen! I grow and c...
Claire's Culinary Adventures: Preserving Foraged Fruits
http://clairesculinaryadventures.blogspot.com/2012/03/preserving-foraged-fruits.html
Cooking inspired by growing food in the garden. Monday, 19 March 2012. It might seem like a funny time of the year to be writing about this. Autumn and winter would be slightly more appropriate but I'm moving house in a few weeks and have been sorting out my freezer trying to use up those frozen foods before the big move to Birmingham. So yesterday I spent the day in my kitchen with these bubbling concoctions made from last autumn's foraged foods. Haw Berry Sauce (makes 300ml sauce). 500g elderberries, 5...
Claire's Culinary Adventures: Stuffed Gem Squash
http://clairesculinaryadventures.blogspot.com/2012/01/stuffed-gem-squash.html
Cooking inspired by growing food in the garden. Sunday, 8 January 2012. Do you remember the gem squash I grew in the garden last summer? Gem Squash - the intrepid explorer. Yesterday, I thought it was time to do my home grown gem squash justice and what a delicious dish it made. I just have to share it with you! As my boyfriend is lactose intolerant I stuffed his gem squash with my home grown Slow Roasted Tomatoes. Then I roasted them all in the oven for an hour at 180 degrees centigrade. Thanks Claire&#...

Claire's Crafts: Crochet Necklace with button and sequens jewel effect
http://clairescraft.blogspot.com/2014/01/crochet-necklace-with-button-and.html
Wednesday, 15 January 2014. Crochet Necklace with button and sequens jewel effect. I love this making these, so much so that this is the latest present I make for my girly friends to go with their birthday cards. I like to use pearlised cotton to crochet with and adding a few sequins over the button stitching to add a little bit of sparkle or you can just add a pretty button you have going spare in your button jar. Claire's Crafts: A late present
http://clairescraft.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-late-present.html
Saturday, 16 February 2013. My boyfriend's birthday was a few weeks ago. I was trying to crochet him a woolly hat. I made a few things in my first month a mini storage box, a flower, a twisty scarf and I decided to make my boyfriend's present out of crochet. I had no idea what to make and he said he would love a woolly hat with a pompom on the top. Not wanting him to be without on his birthday, he had a handmade card and I baked him a chocolate cake with happy birthday candles so he was chuffed with that.

Tuesday, 31 January 2012. I love this bag, so much so that it got quite worn to the extent that it started to get a big hole on the back. I started off by fixing it and patching up the hole with a brown piece of cloth. Originally the back was green material like the handle you can see so it was all khaki green with a brown patch in the middle about 10cm x 10cm. Not very glamorous! I'd seen a programme on appliqu. Labels: make do and mend. Location: 20, London Borough of Wandsworth, London SW18, UK. Idea ...

Monday, 25 November 2013. Crochet Snowflake Christmas Decorations. Just learnt to make these snowflakes from a pattern in Mollie Makes Magazine. They are supposed to be the decoration for some gloves but I think they make great decorations for the Christmas Tree or maybe a snowflake garland. It's a treble round, and the icicle parts are 3 x chains together. I modified the pattern to make the chain in the middle to be 6 stitch chain in between two 4 stitch chains. Monday, 11 November 2013. Why not edge bo...

Thursday, 23 February 2012. My boyfriend's Homemade Valentine's Card. This year I decided to make my boyfriend's valentine's card instead of buying him one someone else designed. A lot of the materials were things I found or leftovers like the jeans pocket which was in my box of bits and pieces that I like to save in case I can make something with them in the future. And of course using a jeans pocket I had to pop a little present for him in the pocket. Teamed up with a red envelope! Home made Birthday C...
Claire's Crafts: Crafty Present Making
http://clairescraft.blogspot.com/2014/01/crafty-present-making.html
Tuesday, 14 January 2014. For Christmas 2013 I made as many presents for my friends and families as I could. Scarves for the boys (Rowan cashsoft). I started in November and the majority of presents were crocheted. Not satisfied with the pressure of making so many presents, I also made snowflake Christmas decorations which were placed inside all the Christmas cards I sent. An oven glove for mum (Rowan handknit cotton, heatproof cloth, lining). Dad's woolly hat (Rowan cashsoft). Mum didn't want to use her...

Wednesday, 9 May 2012. Cushions for little ones. Last Christmas, mum gave me a sewing machine so I needed a first project to make with my new machine. We have a friend who's been posted to Afghanistan on a tour of duty so we wanted to send his children Lily and Ethan something nice, so I made these. This one's for his little boy Ethan. I hope he likes it and the orange spotty buttons. This one's for his little sister Lily. She's a crawler, soon to be a toddler and adorable. I hope she likes the pattern.
Claire's Crafts: Crochet Crazy and crochet cushion covers
http://clairescraft.blogspot.com/2013/11/crochet-crazy-and-crochet-cushion-covers.html
Monday, 11 November 2013. Crochet Crazy and crochet cushion covers. Craig's cushion: One side red in trebble, other side squares. I've gone a bit crochet crazy lately. Think it's the dark evenings that are setting it off. To start with I've been making a crochet cushion cover for my friend Craig. One side was fine - I managed to get to the desired 14.5" but when I got to the other side I ran out of wool. He was right, I threaded them together and it really worked. But just as I'd finished stitching the s...

Wednesday, 12 December 2012. Good evening one and all, this is my submission for the big bead give away, a wonderfully kind and talented bead artist Lesley set several budding jewellery/crafty people a challenge, we were given a lucky dip bead/beads and were asked to make something. Of interest, I have chosen to make a handbag charm, shown here:. I was lucky enough to be sent 3 beads all in all, so with the final two b. Eads I put together a pair of earrings, shown belo. Claire's Culinary Adventures
Cooking inspired by growing food in the garden. Tuesday, 1 January 2013. I think some of our most amazing meals come from giving leftovers a second lease of life. When we had loads of leftover roast veg, stuffing and crispy bacon from our Christmas meal, I made these. Roast in the oven (about 180 degrees or gas mark 6) for about 20 mins and hey presto, some great picnic food or a great veg accompaniment to a meal. You can turn left overs into something really delicious. Links to this post. It might seem ...
