Can the scientific method work in the EFL world? From mating flies to helping minds. The experiment never stops. Scientist turned English teacher. A diary of three good things. Why Tokyo, why ELT? A diary of three good things. Happiness has been a hot topic for many talks recently. It was precisely because of the pursuit of happiness that I ended up in Japan. I figure that I should spend more time making sure I am still heading in the right direction. In this other blog. I got this idea from Marc Helgesen.

Can the scientific method work in the EFL world? From mating flies to helping minds. The experiment never stops. Scientist turned English teacher. A diary of three good things. Why Tokyo, why ELT? After almost three years in Japan, it was time to move on. It was perhaps sooner than I had expected. The cherry blossoms went into full bloom during the last week of my stay, as my former student affectionately put it, ‘it was a farewell’ from the essence of Japan. Chapter Japan will be closed, at least for now.

A diary of three good things. Can regularly recording good things make you happier and grow your brain? Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Why three good things? December 2, 2014. It’s been four months since my ‘fresh start’. I’ve chosen this quiet moment to sit down, reflect and record a few snippets. I did not have high hopes on the living standards here. Experience has taught me that expectations are major obstacles to one’s inner happiness. Forget ‘cloud-surfing’! July 29, 2014.

Lesson 5 – I want to lose weight | An Experiment with Dogme

An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Lesson 5 – I want to lose weight. September 15, 2011. The first guy to arrive told me that he was hungry because he’d been on a diet. I asked him about it and as the others arrived involved them in the conversation. Naturally, the girls started giving him advice on how to lose weight and were horrified at some of his habits (going to the shop in the middle of the night to buy cakes! 8212;——. An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Dogme Training Session – Before. February 23, 2012. After the event itself, I’m planning to ask a colleague to write a report on what happened, which will hopefully provide some insight on how such a workshop comes across to teachers unfamiliar with Dogme. Extremely experienced teachers, most of whom will not be aware of Dogme ELT. 2 Ask ‘Ss’ to brainstorm solutions to my situation in pairs. 4 Pairs mingle and.

An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Lesson 2 – Rioting. September 1, 2011. First lesson back after the summer break with my intermediate business class that want to do ‘conversation’ now! They really want to talk, and it all flows beautifully from one thing to the next. I love how engaged they are with language that they’ve created themselves, not something that’s come from a worksheet. Have a look at the finished board. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Settling for a compromise? June 20, 2012. I haven’t written a post for quite some time and I’d like to talk a bit about my classes and the extent to which Dogme is playing a part. My blog is called An Experiment with Dogme. In fact, it developed into something more than an experiment and ended up revolutionising my teaching in all the ways I have written about in previous posts. Just as it is silly for anyone t...

An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Reviewing and scaffolding language with one-to-one learners. November 21, 2011. Here’s a simple activity for looking at and deepening understanding of a chunk of language. It works particularly well with one-to-one classes because it needs a fair amount of teacher input. You could use it to examine emerging language, or to review something from a previous lesson. 8216;take it badly’). From → Uncategorized.

An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Lesson 9 – Business and a nod to M. Lewis. October 20, 2011. But as is often the case with these classes, as we know, beginnings and endings can be messy. People often don’t leave their baggage behind at their desk. They bring their working lives and problems right into the room with them. So given a rather dull topic like this, what can you do with it? 6 Quite a few phrases and collocations emerging. Board...

February 10, 2012. With waves of influenza going round like crazy, I have had to retreat from my online activity for a while. It has been quite a long day since Day 26.
