White-box walk in Chiltern-Mt Pilot NP. July 24, 2015. Honeyeater picnic area in the morning sunlight. Rock ferns by the trail. Ironbarks and gun trees as the track crosses a road. Small mushrooms pushing up through the gravelly trail. A wallaby staring back at us from the trees. The sparse undergrowth of the box-ironbark forest. Lower areas were green with short grasses. Greenhoods pushing up through the tangle of fallen limbs. Bracket fungi in the Quiet area. It was a very quiet fungus. How we got there.

Escaping Suburbia in Search of The Wild. A Loop Around Kings Falls. May 15, 2015. June 29, 2015. I write again about the delights to be found in Arthurs Seat State Park. This time my boots take me on a 1km loop around Kings Falls. The start point can be accessed from Waterfall Gully Road, Arthurs Seat, or alternatively, you can do the longer walk from Seawinds Gardens. This loop is part of my regular walk, which I commence at Seawinds Gardens. I follow the sign-posted track in an anti-clockwise direction.

Sometimes the path was just a bunch of fallen down trees and slippery bark. How t...

A bike for all seasons. Four seasons, many stories. A bike for all seasons. Four seasons, many stories. Posted on April 13, 2015. Since arriving, I’d been walking and watching and photographing the way bicycles fit into this city; how they move, where they travel, where they park, what type of bikes there are, and who’s riding them. I’d been imagining riding and couldn’t wait for my jet lag to pass. Keep to the right, keep to the right. Bicycle lanes are common. If I don’t have a time limit, I like...

What am I doing on two wheels? Presta, Shrader and PSI. April 7, 2015. April 7, 2015. Once I was home again I looked up the Brompton Owner’s Manual for the recommended tyre pressure, which turned out to be anything between 65-115psi for my Schwalbe Marathon tyres. Then I looked up a post about how to pump tyres. Published on a good website that I’ve found and would recommend called Total Womens Cycling (TWC). So I was going to take it up 65psi too, but I thought I’d try filling them both a little m...
