Desert Quill

Friday, May 22, 2015. The journey part 7. Once a month we checked into the extended stay hotel that had become our home away from home. We settled into a routine of getting up at crack of dawn. On days when I didn’t have blood tests we ate a continental breakfast in a little room off the lobby. All I remember about the breakfast fare was some really bad muffins. But I was grateful for the coffee. On the days when I had fasting blood tests we went directly to the hospital. On the lobby desk I saw a notice...

Tuesday, February 10, 2015. The Journey Part 4. Frustrated with my lack of progress, my dermatologist did some investigation and came up with the name of one of the foremost researchers in the world in the field of lymphoma treatment. “If you were my mother, I would want to explore every option. She may know something I don’t,” he said as he handed me the name and number of a doctor at M. D. Anderson Cancer Treatment center in Houston, Texas. Was a long ways from Arizona. Walking past a grand piano and s...

Monday, April 27, 2015. The Journey Part 5. We figured out a way to pay- for treatment at least- participate in a drug study. My body now belonged to Stanford University. Airline tickets and hotels- that was another story. Friends started coming forward with offers of air miles. If this was going to be a regular thing we had to go the econo route. We shopped around and found an extended stay hotel with a shuttle to the hospital. A large percentage of the other patrons there were cancer patients. 8220;The...

Desert Quill: The Journey part 3- The touch of God

http://www.desertquillaz.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-journey-part-3-touch-of-god_6.html

Tuesday, January 6, 2015. The Journey part 3- The touch of God. The non aggressive diagnosis was dead wrong. The lesions continued to grow and in spite of the steroid cream, I was in misery. I was so busy scratching my itching, burning skin that I had a hard time getting much accomplished through the day. I wasn’t sleeping all that great either. It got so bad that I cried out to God, “If this is what the rest of my life is going to be like, please just take me home now! I began savoring my family, squeez...

Desert Quill: May 2012

http://www.desertquillaz.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 30, 2012. It's Just the Way They're Made. Aside from keeping me entertained my grand kids are a continual source of learning about life. Today we turned on the sprinklers in the backyard and let two sets of grandchildren run through them. In almost no time the two little boys had turned dual sprinklers into weapons spraying each other and the porch. Posted by Desert Quill. Saturday, May 19, 2012. I have been in Mexico and Central America and I understand completely the desperation that dri...

Desert Quietude

There is a time for building, resting, arriving and leaving. The wheel of life spins endlessly, we jump on for a spell and then we are gone. I’m about to complete my 15th year of practice and enter my third decade as a student of Oriental Medicine. Decade! We count years with one kind of gravity; decades carry a more resounding thud. I’ve spent these past 20 years acquiring knowledge, skill, language, clinical and business experience. Of course–learning is as endless as the horizon of the ocean. I’ve fou...

Desert Quill

Welcome to my website. I’m Marlene Moser Oar. For the last nine years it has been my privilege to travel with my husband to Honduras. Honduras is a beautiful country with sparkling white beaches and blue-green Caribbean waters-exotic flowers and 700 different species of butterflies. It is a land of perpetual mountains which flow together from one end of the country to the other. In its valleys are still found the imprint of the ancients in Mayan temples that have withstood time and the elements.

Thursday, February 10, 2011. The best jewelry is precious but not necessarily "precious". Don't be. I only mean that jewelry delivered from the heart is precious and doesn't need to be of precious metals or stones. Take a look at what was in my mailbox tonight! Purchased from and handmade with love by my niece. I told her not to forget the bill. That would be the post-it-note with her math scribbles. 3 pairs of earrings, 2 bracelets and 1 ring. Total for this loot? Wednesday, February 9, 2011. So hollere...

Quilting in the Desert

Quilting in the Desert. Thursday, June 27, 2013. It's been a long week. And I have been crazy busy and not feeling too hot for a couple of days. Had myself a little bladder infection that started on Sunday. I hate hate hate those. But it's doing much better now. But I hate antibiotics too, but this is one of those times when there is NO choice! I've been busy sewing all week making collars and such. Doing some days of the Creative Journal and missing a couple of them and one of them is not finished.
