Mesquedia: Mesa View Considering Anti-Family Move
http://mesquedia.blogspot.com/2012/09/mesa-view-considering-anti-family-move.html
Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Mesa View Considering Anti-Family Move. Word has hit the street that Mesa View Regional Hospital is planning to close their labor and delivery department. While the move won't be as visible to visitors as an abandoned casino or a shuttered business on Mesquite Blvd., its effect will be far more devastating. That's right. Dying. Sadly, we once again have no one to blame but ourselves, going back to the last decade when our town was so desperately trying to woo a hospital here.

Mesquedia: July 2012

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Will City Employ Car Con Game? If you've ever bought a car, you've seen this con in action. You want to buy the car at a certain price. The salesman switches tactics. Instead of talking total out-the-door price, he starts throwing around "monthly payment" figures. Those numbers get adjusted up and down as things are added and subtracted. You finally give up and say "okay" when the monthly payment gets to a number you think you can afford. In listening to those council members agre...

Wednesday, October 26, 2011. VVWD Needs To Fight Back Against Federal Extortion. The Virgin Valley Water District has been dancing around the issue of a new fee for the Habitat. Conservation and Recovery Plan, particularly how much to charge for it. Currently, A $500 HCRP fee is already included in the myriad of impact fees and surcharges levied against developers and home builders by the City of Mesquite. The US. Fish and Wildlife Service is requiring this fee. It's double dipping, plain and simple.

Mesquedia: Fighting Back Against OPD
http://mesquedia.blogspot.com/2012/09/fighting-back-against-opd.html
Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Fighting Back Against OPD. Last week, the Overton Power District showed their complete contempt for the people they are supposed to serve by unanimously approving a 4.5 percent rate increase, despite very vocal protests by Mesquite rate payers. The increase comes on the heels of another $5 increase imposed last year. Oddly enough, the Public Utility Commission of Nevada. So OPD has given us the finger and told all of its ratepayers in Mesquite to go pound sand. They did i...

Mesquedia: August 2012

Tuesday, August 28, 2012. OPD's Sheep Getting Fleeced. The Overton Power District, which also provides electricity to Mesquite and Bunkerville, has proposed their next rate increase: 4.5 percent. Last year, OPD quietly popped us for a flat $5 increase on their "base charge.". So far, the rate of inflation for the United States is tracking at around 2.3 percent for 2012, and was 3 percent in 2011. But this increase isn't about inflation, or rising costs of energy production. Before the torches are lit and...

Mesquedia: Proud Of My Town After Popeye's Spinach
http://mesquedia.blogspot.com/2012/09/proud-of-my-town-after-popeyes-spinach.html
Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Proud Of My Town After Popeye's Spinach. I am so proud of my town right now I could just bust. There was a time when I felt the complete opposite. I used to joke that the official bird of Mesquite was the ostrich, because so many of its citizens insisted in hiding their head in the sand, pretending everything was not only quite hunky but extremely dory. It was a long time before the people of Mesquite joined together again to take on the "powers that be.". Since then, it's as...

Mesquedia: June 2012
http://mesquedia.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 25, 2012. Brown Brown Dirt Of Home. There was an old country song recorded in the 1960's by Porter Wagoner, Bobby Bare, Charley Pride, and a whole host of other stars. It was a sad song in which the singer looked longingly toward that day when he would return to the "Green Green Grass of Home.". We can only hope that the guy who wrote that song wasn't thinking of coming home to Mesquite. If so, he would have to re-title the song "Brown Brown Dirt of Home.". Add to that, somehow a contingent ...

Mesquedia: Our Brave Council Should Never 'Retreat'
http://mesquedia.blogspot.com/2012/10/our-brave-council-should-never-retreat.html
Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Our Brave Council Should Never 'Retreat'. The new Mesquite City Manager has proposed a "retreat" for the council in the near future, led by our Carson City lobbyist Randy Robison. Retreats are popular in corporate settings because they get managers away from the distractions and commonality of the workplace and put them in a fresh environment to brainstorm and plan. It's a tool to foster thinking "outside the box," and is extraordinarily effective. Unfortunately, this highlights...
