July 07, 2011. The Locavore/Locapour Movement Loses A Star. I opened a special bottle the other night: Red Newt Cellars. Debra Whiting of Red Newt Cellars and Bistro pioneered the locavore movement in the Finger Lakes. (Red Newt Cellars). Somehow that seemed appropriate. I had chosen the wine in honor of Dave. Sadly, Dave and Debra Whiting were in a tragic car accident on June 30. But enough from me. Here are tributes from people who knew Deb Whiting much better. On the wine side, wrote Jim Trezise.
