http://edplumb.blogspot.com/2010/05/northern-alaska-packrafts-llc.html
Finding the balance between work and play. Thursday, May 27, 2010. Northern Alaska Packrafts, LLC. A packraft rental shop has been born in Alaska's interior. Northern Alaska Packrafts. Is now open for business, serving up packrafts to those with an appetite for adventure. Unfortunately, this blog has been severely neglected due to the consumption of time from other endeavors - but it has not been totally forgotten. New trip postings, thoughts, and experiences coming soon. Posted by Ed Plumb.
The Edventures: January 2010
http://edplumb.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Finding the balance between work and play. Sunday, January 24, 2010. Growing Older at Caribou Bluff. Curtains of northern lights dance above Caribou Bluff cabin. This was a quick weekend trip into the White Mountains. Six of us traveled by skis, and one on a bike with fatty tires. We propelled ourselves 30 miles out to the Caribou Bluff cabin and then an additional 30 miles back to the road. This was an especially special trip. It has been nearly a year since Dea. A video story from Caribou Bluff.
The Edventures: March 2010
http://edplumb.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Finding the balance between work and play. Tuesday, March 23, 2010. 100 Miles through the White Mountains. 50 athletes leave the start line of the inaugural White Mountains 100-mile race. Became a reality. Skiing the 100-mile course was going to be a cool down or decompression of sorts, and time to watch the race unfold before me. Thanks to all the volunteers, athletes, and supporters that made this a successful race. Posted by Ed Plumb. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.
The Edventures: Kite Skiing in the Alaskan Arctic
http://edplumb.blogspot.com/2010/02/kite-skiing-in-alaskan-arctic.html
Finding the balance between work and play. Friday, February 5, 2010. Kite Skiing in the Alaskan Arctic. Dan heads west along the wind-swept tundra of the Arctic coastal plain. Loading up the hand-crafted sled and bag with a weeks worth of gear to survive in sub-zero temperatures and mind numbing wind chills. Bundles of lithium batteries for a headlamp, gps, and SPOT. Ensuring the kite lines are untangled prior to departure. All geared up and ready to launch the kite. First stop: Nuiqsut, Alaska.
The Edventures: Rendezvous at Kilo Hot Springs
http://edplumb.blogspot.com/2010/05/rendezvous-at-kilo-hot-springs.html
Finding the balance between work and play. Sunday, May 30, 2010. Rendezvous at Kilo Hot Springs. Soaking in one of the pools at Kilo Hot Springs. Smoke from early season wildfires settles into the Yukon River valley as we paddled 20 miles to our take-out point. The Yukon River narrows considerably below the Dalton Highway as it approaches a pinch point know as the Rampart Canyon. This narrow neck was once considered a feasible site for the hydroelectric producing Rampart Dam. Dea and Ben sit around the c...

The glacier geek and his vaimo. Ordinary life in the far north is not always ordinary. even for a couple of geeks. Moose on the loose. I found this e-mail rather amusing:. SUBJECT: Moose on campus. This is a reminder that moose living near the University of Alaska Fairbanks may pass through campus. Members of the campus community should use common sense if they come in contact with wildlife and be aware that wildlife could be present, especially in the wooded areas of campus. Living it up in alaska. We started our hike up the summit trail from the Wickersham Dome trail head. The summit trail is in great shape. We hiked past the trail shelter at mile 8 until around mile 10.5 to start our bush whack to Eleazar's cabin in the White Mountains. We headed toward the cabin off the ridge and half way through we came to a nice clearing to get a view of our direction. The cabin is just beyond the hilltop directly behind Dan's head. CHST to Middle Fork Chena River. We had to bushwhack t...

Living it up in alaska. Ben and I had a fantastic short weekend trip to the Brooks Range. The Brooks Range is 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle and around 300 miles north of Fairbanks. We stopped in Wiseman at Bernie and Uda's B&B to say hi to the winter classic guys too. Atigun Pass was so beautiful, Ben shot the 4x5 and I could not wait to get out the skis. Over the pass it was still winter at -12F, but sunny and no wind. Skiing early the next morning over Galbrith Lake and up the ridge.

Living it up in alaska. Colorado Creek Cabin (DNR). We were very cozy inside the Colorado Creek cabin, just a few over the max amount. It was no problem though because a snowcave was built and Ann slept in there. It was great ski into the cabin and only 6miles. On the way out we went up Compeau Trail to the ridge. Ben skiing on the way out. Trevor quickly skiing over the overflow we encountered. We only had to scrap the skis once though. Fernie in the snowcave with Ann. Christmas 2009 at home in Alaska.

Living it up in alaska. The girls at Kat's Thanksgiving dinner. Kat served up a great meal and everyone brought sides and wine. A few hilarious stories too, a good time was had by all. I have a cool purple cast for my broken wrist, but still have another ski trip planned. Ben and Galen toasting at scotch and socks night. A group of us met for Thanksgiving day ski. I skijored using a split skijor leash, Pella and Lucy. We still were no match for Sky and Ty, but we had a good ski chasing them. Dan made Ben...
huffblog: Moody Creek!
http://huffblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/moody-creek.html
Living it up in alaska. The hike to packraft Moody Creek starts at the Dragon Fly drainage at mile 273. Trevor, Ed, Ann, Shook and I started trip two of the kidney reunion packraft tour straight up to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain and off the back side. Tbone, not texting :). We arrive at Moody Creek, excited to get on this new unscouted river. One of many fun manoeuvers through a solid class three river. Ann (a.k.a. Scout), famously said just go ahead it looks good. Trevor headed through a rocky set.
huffblog: Robertson River
http://huffblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/robertson-river.html
Living it up in alaska. The hike up from Cathedral Rapids near Tok was beautiful. We were able to hike straight up the drainage to the start of the climb and there was one waterfall after another. The climb up the pass was relativity short and ended just below snow line. We had a few solid sheep trails that made for easy climbing on and off. The pass was guarded by the sheep. The next morning we floated the fast, fun and braided Roberton River 25 miles back to the bridge. Looks like another fun adventure.

The Life of Fred and Jane. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Last times with family before going on our mission. This is our last family dinner before our departures. Craig McCune's new Lexus convertible (hard top) is a beauty! A visit to the Gilbert Temple site. A visit to Chuckee Cheese was a highlight for the children! Grandma ties a quilt with the girls.
