Feeding Jake

Monday, August 19, 2013. Is officially done with FPIES. Done. He is 3 years, 6 months old. I'm kind of beside myself. I don't have to check labels, ask servers for ingredients, call ahead to restaurants, deprive my poor kids of french fries (actually I won't miss that). Now we deal with the regular three year old struggles. Separation anxiety (we started preschool last week), potty training, tantrums, and picking battles as they come. What have we done to celebrate? So that's it. We're done. Wow. My exci...

Feeding Jake: April 2013

http://feedingjake.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 11, 2013. I'm big now, I can eat bananas" - Jake. No reactions whatsoever. He's had them just straight out of the peel and mixed into smoothies for over a week now. He's one happy dude. Next up is rice and oats. Not sure when because our schedule gets really crazy starting next week. But I have a lot more confidence in trying these two, now! Feeding Jake: July 2011

http://feedingjake.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 15, 2011. Jake had an iron check today. His hemoglobin is up to 12! Apparently the Vitamin C did the trick. He just needed a little help absorbing the iron. I'm so very glad. If it didn't come up this time, it would be a sign that something else was wrong, which means more tests. As the doctor was leaving and I was grabbing my backpack and we were obviously leaving, he quickly blew a kiss to the doctor and told her "bye! The doctor thought it was hilarious. Friday, July 1, 2011. It wasn't th...

Feeding Jake: June 2011

http://feedingjake.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 26, 2011. This is what happens when I don't update for a few weeks! I haven't been listing all our food trials lately, but we've had some exciting new passes. Jake's food trials have been less strict. After a few days, if I see no sign of discomfort, I call it a pass. I really think we've hit all our "fails" that we're going to have. Sunflower Seeds (sunflower seed butter is a great peanut butter sub! Strawberries (these were iffy before, but I think it was something in my diet, not Jake's).

Feeding Jake: Why can't I do it?

http://feedingjake.blogspot.com/2012/04/why-cant-i-do-it.html

Sunday, April 8, 2012. Why can't I do it? I haven't updated since December. So sorry. We had our appointment with the allergist in January. Jake had his patch test. We tested rice, oats, bananas and quinoa. Oats had a slight reaction, and we're talking very, very slight. ZERO reaction from the others. Why can't I do it? Why am I so afraid? I look back and wonder if it was as bad as I remember it. Was he really that sick? Did he really turn that pale gray color and lie limp and helpless in my arms? After ...

Jed (Mr. Charm). Zac (Mr. Happy). FPIES is such a mysterious syndrome; the best education I’ve received about it has been from reading on the internet. For the last few weeks we have been meaning to get out and enjoy the Pick Your Own season – it’s just been a matter of finding the time.
