Tread Lightly: What is Contemporary

http://www.foodforthought510.blogspot.com/2007/04/what-is-contemporary.html

English 510: The Displacement of Myth in Literature and Dream.and Life. Also, at times, personal poetry. Monday, April 2, 2007. Contemporary poetry…what does that exactly mean? I am not even sure I could give you a working definition of contemporary and how it applies to literature/poetry. I know it deals with what is currently happening and everything that is going on at the time. But when is the cut-off? When is something no longer contemporary or current? How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

English 510: The Displacement of Myth in Literature and Dream.and Life. Also, at times, personal poetry. Monday, March 19, 2007. Some days he’d rub two pegs together. Until they made a greasy hum. Like rain, the sound of moles. Gnawing the dirt’s grain, the song. Soils sing before a quake,. And the red bodies would hang. Above the ground in a kind of confusion. Or ecstasy. They would writhe. Am I the only corrupt mind in the room? Among the claw-foot sofas, under the looming. Artie had the whites teeth a...

English 510: The Displacement of Myth in Literature and Dream.and Life. Also, at times, personal poetry. Sunday, April 15, 2007. Harrison speaks of love from experience, loss from tragedy, experience through travels, and children through questioning; incorporating these ideas into the very heart of his poetry. The dead are not meant to go,. But to trail off so that one can. See them on a distant hillock,. Across the river, in dreams. From which one awakens nearly healed:. They say; we were a little early.

EnglishMelanie: contemporary poetry

http://englishmelanie.blogspot.com/2007/04/contemporary-poetry.html

Sunday, April 1, 2007. Hmmm…what is contemporary poetry? Trying to define contemporary poetry is problematic for me on several levels. First, the word “contemporary” is tricky. How old can the poetry be to not be contemporary or, in other words, how new should it be? Another possible hallmark of contemporary poetry, not that this is exclusive to contemporary poetry, seems to be that contemporary poetry makes the reader work a little harder to extract meaning. Even in poetry that we think is accessibl...

In a class that promises to make me even further unfit for reality. Monday, February 26, 2007. I see his blood upon the rose. And in the stars the glory of his eyes,. His body gleams amid eternal snows,. His tears fall from the skies. I see his face in every flower;. The thunder and the singing of the birds. Are but his voice and carven by his power. Rocks are his written words. All pathways by his feet are worn,. His strong heart stirs the ever-beating sea,. His cross is every tree. Links to this post.

Sunday, February 11, 2007. Sexson sarcastically posed the question in class on Wednesday, "Who would like to live in the world of Don Quixote and Romanticism? Where is the fun in that! Chaundera - You sound distressed. I think the problem with concepts like the Quixotic ideal and other romantic notions is that they seem ideal, when really they aren't. Dreaming Myths: January 2007

http://jensen510.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

In a class that promises to make me even further unfit for reality. Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Notable class 31 Jan. Northrup Frye doesn't ascribe to any particular school of criticism or author. He intends, instead, to provide a sort of universal (omniscient/present) view of what it means to read/interpret literature. He proposes to reduce literature to its lowest common denominator: words and their structure. Does Northie think he's God? What is the difference between myths and fairy tales? Hoaxes: f...

Food for Thought

Thursday, June 21, 2012. This recipe happened on accident while I was trying to get my picky 3 year old to eat blueberries. But it turned out really yummy and even healthy! And the best part is my kids eat it! It's so yummy on pancakes. You can add a little whipped cream on top but it's definitely super tasty on it's own. Pour it over ice cream, too. 1 cup frozen (or fresh) strawberries. 1 cup mixed berries (any berries-blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc). 3 tbsp lemon juice. 3 Tbsp lemon juice.

Friday, February 4, 2011. Caramelized Onion and Garlic Pizza. So, I realize it's been a very long while since I've updated this thing. So, how about if I do. For lunch today. I decided that I needed to use up the extra piece of naan bread that we had in the fridge. So what did I do? I decided to caramelize some onions and garlic and cover it with cheese and pop it in the oven. Which was really good. So, here's the recipe! 2 good sized cloves of garlic. Good handful of mozzarella cheese. 7 Pop it in the o...

Food for Thought | What's in our food?

What's in our food? Gluten-free foods: the healthiest for everyone? That says Gluten Free. Are becoming increasingly popular around the college campus that I currently call home, reflecting, I believe, a similar trend at the national level. In fact, it is so popular that I begin to view it as the next fad food for very health conscious college students. We not only need to eat healthier desserts in the form of frozen treats called Tasti-D-Lites. Come out on top. And you are not gluten-intolerant. Gluten-...
