From the Bottom of a Wine Bottle. Missives and musings along the way to the bottom…. December 1, 2016. I got the basics of this casserole from my friend Jacqui, during our first duty station. She called her recipe “Sweet Potato Pie with Cornflakes” but I’ve evolved it into something a bit different over the years. My guys really love the topping and I adore the sweet potato itself, so it’s a great side dish for our holiday turkey menu. I hope you feel the same! 1 small can crushed pineapple, drained.

Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Good evening, friends! Well, it took me long enough, but I finally got around to making that Facebook Page I've been meaning to do for oh.umm.(looks at calendar.starts mumbling.). *Cough* Let's just say lots longer than I ever meant. I don't have a button for it yet up there to your right - Yeah! Lots of buttons for you to click and connect to The GG with! But I hope to have it up there soon. In the meantime, you can find it by clicking here:. Come on, you know you want to!

Friday, December 19, 2014. Bring Us Some Figgy Pudding! Christmas is only six days away. Six! Do you know how I know that? Fine, and the flag says there's six (six! Days left, and I run face-first into the wall of insanity. I won't get off your porch or stop singing until you give me a slice of this.". I brought an unusual dessert (for us Americans, anyway): a Figgy Pudding. Now bring us some Figgy Pudding, now bring us some Figgy Pudding, now bring us some Figgy Pudding, and a cup of good cheer! I told ...

Thursday, July 31, 2014. Bon Appétit usually has some of the best new recipes for thinking outside the cookie/bar box during the holidays, what with their annual holiday cookie editions, but it was actually Pinterest that helped me to find one of the best cookies I've ever had in my life, hands down. Maybe you saw it floating around on the web last December - The Hot Cocoa Cookie. Featured on the blog Glorious Treats. Yum That is all. But there's a catch. Melted marshmallows are messy. With three...I fou...
The Gleeful Gourmand: January 2015

Monday, January 26, 2015. Unless you've been living under a rock the past few days, there is apparently a blizzard of "epic proportions" bearing down on the Northeast. Here in good old RVA, we've been blessed with no pretty, fluffy, white stuff (or not yet, at least), but instead have a crummy, cold, wet day. We live in a place where snow frequently happens to everyone around us, but not actually to. If there's no snow, my southern blood calls out for spring, stat. Enough of the bleak days, the bare ...

Friday, May 29, 2015. The Classic French Omelet. I have omelets on the brain this week! But this.I could tackle this! I could finally make an omelet the way it's supposed to be made! A little mise-en-place, pouring the eggs, adding the cheese, and ready to roll. 2) 2 large eggs. They say use "insanely fresh." Unless you have a chicken in your backyard running around, just use the darn eggs in your fridge. Whisk those bad boys vigorously so that absolutely no streaks of egg whites are showing. 7) Slide th...

Thursday, April 23, 2015. The Problem with Christian Movies. In my preteen years and having my young mind blown over the revelation of "Rosebud." I think it was fitting that just as I was beginning to discover that layers of symbolism and imagery were put on the page on purpose and for a reason, I was also getting acquainted with those same elements in film. A couple of weeks ago I was reading an issue of Entertainment Weekly Magazine. I had watched The Bible. Series a couple of years ago and was genuine...

Friday, March 27, 2015. Coq Au Vin Rouge. There aren't many things in life that I'm able to label definitively as "the best I've ever had." But when it comes to the best meal I've ever had, there's only one that comes close. This is not to say that all the other meals haven't been spectacular, or that they've somehow been subpar. It's just that this particular one edged out all the others. This young Beaujolais was also delicious to drink with the meal: light and tart. Coq Au Vin en flambé, y'all! The on...

Here are the ingredients:. A chicken from the freezer. Dry red wine (use what you like or have on hand). One can of pinto beans (or refried beans, your choice). Your favorite salsa – one jar. Flour tortillas (regular size, your favorite type). Cheese (I used an entire bag of 2% milk shredded sharp cheddar).
