g {squared} glynnis in ghana

Thursday, August 21, 2008. Hafisu (my friend) quickly translated our questions. I wanted to know where they took their drinking water from (rainwater and wells) and where I could go to the washroom (the school was equipped with latrines or otherwise it was just freeranging in the bush). They wanted to know if I would eat their food (yep! And whether I could drink their water (sure! Well there is a ton more to say about my village stays, but I seem to have rambled on for quite a while so I'll end it there.

http://www.g-in-ghana.blogspot.com/2008/07/july-16th-blog-post.html

Monday, July 21, 2008. July 16th Blog Post. Can it contribute to a country's development? Is it called for in today's economy and in a culture of large family sizes? Or is this an issue of basic human rights and should it be punished accordingly? I think that my answers to these questions would have seemed much more obvious before coming here, but a lot has changed now. I'd love to hear them in the comments! Until next time folks,. http://www.g-in-ghana.blogspot.com/2008/07/july-17th-blog-post.html

Monday, July 21, 2008. July 17th Blog Post. Well looking at the calendar today I realized to my surprise that I have only 31 days left here in Salaga. Almost exactly one month - though I think I will be much closer to that by the time I am able to post this! Next week I am heading out to the Makango area, part of our District, to spend some time in a village. I am planning on spending five days with a local family to experience the realities of rural life in Ghana - yes, mud hut and all! I am all ears!

Monday, July 21, 2008. July 7th Blog Post. Anyways, I extricated myself from that situation as soon as possible, as I didn't want to be held up as such an example, but my refusals were simply not being listened to. What an interesting paradox of respect and cross-cultural communication. I seem to have a knack for negotiating bride-price, so maybe I'll just stay in Ghana and make a business out of it:). I hope I haven't been too much of a downer today. Wishing you all the best, really:). Lots of love,.

Wednesday, May 11, 2011. It's been a little while since I've blogged here, so here are some highlights of my life recently:. Finals are happening. The work load is nowhere near what it would be if I was at Smith, but- finals are finals. No fun. I did, however, just do really well on my Danish oral presentation which I never imaged I would a) be taking a Danish language class or b) be kind of good at it? G in Morocco

Monday, May 17, 2010. My second full day home! I’m not sensing that much reverse culture shock, but I am feeling super aware of American culture. Is that culture shock per se? Anyway, since when were calories posted in restaurants everywhere? Tuesday, April 27, 2010. ISP kicks it up a notch. I suddenly felt like I had wasted a week of precious ISP time and nearly had a heart attack. I think I may have an iron deficiency. Solution: eat more tasty street sandwiches with meat.
