A four month volunteer placement through Engineers Without Borders Canada, McGill University chapter
Courtney in Gushei, Ghana: July 2008
http://courtneyinghana.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Courtney in Gushei, Ghana. A four month volunteer placement through Engineers Without Borders Canada, McGill University chapter. Thursday, July 17, 2008. I have been living in Diare for about 3 weeks now and I am definitely happy with my decision to move out of Gushei and live with a family. Recently, I found a group of people to play soccer with. I bought a ball in Tamale and brought it out to the field one day. It is a nice thing to look forward to at the end of the day. I don’t think it is actua...

Courtney in Gushei, Ghana. A four month volunteer placement through Engineers Without Borders Canada, McGill University chapter. Saturday, March 7, 2009. Update on Work in Canada. I decided I should give a brief update on my involvement with EWB and ITFC since my return to Canada, I have been back for about 6 months now, it's hard to believe! So there is a brief summary of the past 6 months, feel free to ask me any questions. March 12, 2009 at 1:24 AM. Keep the updates coming. August 1, 2009 at 9:57 PM.
Courtney in Gushei, Ghana: June 2008

Courtney in Gushei, Ghana. A four month volunteer placement through Engineers Without Borders Canada, McGill University chapter. Friday, June 27, 2008. I ride my bike to and from work so I no longer have time to go running in the mornings before work, but I have managed to go jogging a few times in the afternoons if the sun has not taken too much out of me already. Jogging is my secret to keeping healthy here; that or I have just been incredibly lucky. The sunset one night outside of my compound in Gushei.

Courtney in Gushei, Ghana. A four month volunteer placement through Engineers Without Borders Canada, McGill University chapter. Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Akwaaba means welcome in Twi. Although the official language in. Is English, there are many tribal languages, especially in the northern region which is where I will be living for the next three and a half months. Although my co-workers should all speak some English, I will meet many people who only speak their tribal language. Each student chapter must...

Vera in Zambia: The Sustainable Good Life
http://verainzambia.blogspot.com/2008/07/sustainable-good-life.html
Wednesday, July 16, 2008. The Sustainable Good Life. 8220;If you have an expensive mortgage and a family to support then theoretical objections to the environmentally damaging commute to work or of the triviality of your job can quietly evaporate. Desperate people from all levels of wealth are hungry for better alternatives.”. How many people want more vacation time? How many people feel they lack material comforts compared to their neighbors? The point is that many people in the rich world are facing si...
g {squared} glynnis in ghana: July 17th Blog Post
http://g-in-ghana.blogspot.com/2008/07/july-17th-blog-post.html
Monday, July 21, 2008. July 17th Blog Post. Well looking at the calendar today I realized to my surprise that I have only 31 days left here in Salaga. Almost exactly one month - though I think I will be much closer to that by the time I am able to post this! Next week I am heading out to the Makango area, part of our District, to spend some time in a village. I am planning on spending five days with a local family to experience the realities of rural life in Ghana - yes, mud hut and all! I am all ears!
Saving trees one blog at a time: Calculus and drama can go together
http://melbean.blogspot.com/2009/01/calculus-and-drama-can-go-together.html
Saving trees one blog at a time. Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Calculus and drama can go together. I am about to embark on my second semester of night school. Last semester, I was thankfully taking calculus 1 at a cegep just down the road from my house. I am not so fortunate this semester, and I have to use about 3 hours of my day in travel. The good news is that the end is in sight. One more semester, then three more classes in the summer (fingers crossed) and voila, degree in hand. View my complete profile.

Saving trees one blog at a time. Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Off to the Disney place. I'm leaving for Disney World in 2 days; a gift from the in-laws for the whole fam-damily. Initially, I was horrified. An an environmentalist, activist, and general resister of all things commercial, I wondered why in g*d's name, with only one child (and a baby) in the family at the moment, would they bring seven adults to a children's theme park for a week of shiny, hyped, fancy neuroticism? I'll try to keep that in mind.
Saving trees one blog at a time: Saint Andrew's by the sea
http://melbean.blogspot.com/2008/08/saint-andrews-by-sea.html
Saving trees one blog at a time. Monday, August 11, 2008. Saint Andrew's by the sea. I am in New Brunswick right now for a marine mammals course. What better way to kill 3 credits! Whale watching, seal observing, sea-bird gazing. woo hoo! I'll be in Saint Andrews for 2 weeks, then my boyfriend will be meeting up with me so we can venture on our first vacation together :-). I detect a little dreary-eyed short attention spans in my near future. Monday, August 11, 2008. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Saving trees one blog at a time. Monday, May 19, 2008. I stayed with Che. This time last year, I was in Accra, Ghana. It took me a long time to settle into where I would eventually stay for the entire summer. Sylvie in Malawi: Independence Day
http://sylvieinmalawi.blogspot.com/2008/07/independence-day.html
Monday, July 21, 2008. July 6th, 2008: Malawi turned 44 years old! The president had the major celebrations in Mzuzu, the main city of the Northern Region, to symbolize his efforts to develop the North. Since Mzuzu is close to me, I decided to attempt attending the ceremonies, with a couple of other EWB JFs as well. Here is the story of that day, with some personal commentary at the end. Police were shooting criminals in reenactments of how to call emergency numbers, and for the army, stuff just started ...

Courtney in Finland - Suomi Summer Stories
Courtney in Finland - Suomi Summer Stories. Sunday, August 29, 2010. I'm sitting in the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, waiting to board the first of three planes that will take me home. I'm still surprised that my summer in Suomi passed by so quickly. Though it was cold and rainy when I arrived in Helsinki in early June (and is now cold and rainy again), I was eager and excited to begin this Finnish adventure. I had no idea that, during these three months, I'd face a record breaking heat wave. Though I'm sad a...

Wednesday, March 25, 2015. It's been forever, right? I want to get back to blogging, there is something about a virtual journal that is amazing and therapeutic. I figured I would start blogging about our 2015 Park Challenge! Then of course some more personal feeling goodness I come up with and need to get out. Lately we have been living on the go. Peace Corps - Honduras!
Peace Corps - Honduras! Instead of sending out mass emails that are packed with all the details and descriptions of my time in the Peace Corps, I thought a blog would be a better way to organize my thoughts and experiences. Also, keeping an online journal means that everyone can look at it when they want instead of having full e-mail inboxes of letters. Enjoy! The contents of this website are mine personally and do not reflect any position of the U.S. Government or the Peace Corps. Pineapple ready to eat.
