Gabby isn’t really sure what she wants to do when she leaves school. She hasn’t even chosen her electives for year nine yet! She is interested in studying music at uni and she might become a teacher. Then again, she would also like to work with animals. Maybe she could study animal science? There are so many possibilities. One thing is certain though Gabby is going places. When she is a bit older and she feels ready for the responsibility, Gabby definitely wants to get a guide dog!

After she was born, it took her mum and dad a while to realise that Gabby wasn’t really watching them with her eyes. The eye specialist ( ophthalmologist. Tested Gabby’s eyes and found that she had a condition called Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis. It is hard to tell exactly how much a baby can see. The ophthalmologist said Gabby’s pupil response was sluggish which means her eyes were slow to respond to light. A test of her retinas showed that her eyes were not working too well.
