Feb 27, 2011. This is the first time a can of stout has been in the mise en place. Jim was happy to have an excuse to buy an eight-pack of Guinness. To my knowledge, this is the first time I've ever poured beer in a saucepan and brought it to the boil. I'm absolutely certain that it's the first time I've ever added baking soda to boiling beer. As you might expect, the mixture starts to fizz. Indeed, the cake emerged from the pan with nary a mishap. It still looked thinner than I thought it should. When I...

Alpha Baker Joan : Molasses Crumb Cakelets
http://alphabakerjoan.blogspot.com/2015/07/molasses-crumb-cakelets.html
Saturday, July 11, 2015. The Molasses Crumb Cakelets. These enchanting cakelets were on the agenda for the Alpha Bakers' week of July 13. I decided to bake them earlier although not as part of the group, so I did not photograph all the measuring. And mis en place. The recipe is very simple and straight-forward. I prepped the pan with Bakers Joy, but next time I will not because the coating is extra strong on the pan and the cakelets became moist because of my excessive spray, I think. July 11, 2015 at 7:...

Nov 28, 2010. Lemon Canadian Crown with Homemade Ladyfingers. Here are the piping guides I drew on a piece of parchment paper. If there's anything I'm worse at than piping, it's drawing. My poor third-grade art teacher tried so hard to compliment me on my drawing. But she always guessed wrong about what I was trying to draw. It was easy enough to make the ladyfinger batter. Just an egg-yolk and Wondra flour mixture into which a meringue is folded. In The Sorcerer's Apprentice section of Fantasia. I remem...

First I made the pie crust and the steps are the same as the Black and Blueberry. Pie we made a couple months ago. The only difference is we had to make a lattice top. Never done that before. After I got the bottom crust rolled out, I used my new pie circle cutter. It worked perfectly. Handy Dandy Crust Cutter. The bottom crust was raw! Well, the filling was ...

Bread Bible Alpha Bakers: March 2015
http://breadbiblealphabakers.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Bread Bible Alpha Bakers. Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Courtesy of The Finer Cookie. Our first month is in the books! I think it would be safe to say that everyone really liked the focaccia although it did give some a little bit of trouble but not too much. I also think it's safe to say that most everyone ate too much of it, myself included. It was just so darn good it was really hard to stop eating it. One of the best posts was from Marie. My favorite quote from her post - ". Takes us way back to 1980 whe...

Monday, July 27, 2015. Blueberry Pie - minus elderberries. Grab a fork - - It's sooooooo yummy! Believe me, I had intended to make The ElderBlueberry Pie. I even found and ordered freeze-dried elderberries because no fresh ones seemed to be found here in Texas, at least not at present. I had read that red elderberries are not edible and, when picking, one must choose dark berries not red. So, I opened one of my bags of berries to make the pie:. And, I had splurged on Rose's new baking ensemble - Mmmm.

May 31, 2010. Jim's Birthday Cake for Marie. OK, I didn't really go the Funfetti route; but I was a little bit tempted when I saw this gag present that Marie's brother Doug sent her. Here's the real one:. I found the ideal cake - the Golden Lemon Almond Cake that she blogged about on June 21, 2009. I gathered everything I'd need, went over the instructions for the fourth or fifth time, and added some stuff. I took something away, too. One of Marie's screw-ups was having some cake damage when unmolding it...

Wednesday, April 15, 2015. The Polish Princess Cake. Warning: Do not read this story until you have baked your Princess lol. What little monster is growing in my oven? Indeed, it would not appear to be so. To answer that very question, I now. Offer a fine reward of the difficult-to-obtain frozen sour cherries, or cranberries, to the first person who can solve the riddle of the problem of my Polish Princess Cake #1 featured above. Almost filled it. I made sure to wipe around top edge as Rose does. Cake #2...

Baking Bible: Lemon Jammies with Lemon Neoclassic Buttercream. The cookies were super simple to make. I think the jam I used was way too sweet. The Lemon Neoclassic Buttercream was perfect-definitely the best choice to fill the center. Sugar measured and ready to add. Finely chopped lemon zest. Lemon zest, egg and vanilla added to the creamed butter and sugar. Flour and salt whisked together. Cookie dough pulling away from the sides of the bowl. Dough divided into thirds. I did manage to cut out the cent...

Alpha Baker Joan : March 2015
http://alphabakerjoan.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Our choice of the week is Cran-Raspberry Upside-Down Cake. And the picture in The Cake Bible looked luscious. I glanced at the old copper tarte tatin pan sitting on the shelf at eye level beside my scale that I use daily - I thought, "why not? I gathered it up and gave it a nice brightening with copper polish. The raspberies needed to be seeded through a small wired sieve or food mill and their juices reduced. But when baked it rose just to the top with no overflow. Especially wh...
