Prescribing Yoga: Curiosity
http://prescribingyoga.blogspot.com/2010/12/curiosity.html
The practice of yoga and medicine. Saturday, December 11, 2010. It’s easy to underestimate how difficult it is for someone to become curious. For seven, ten, or even fifteen years of school, you are not required to be curious. Over and over and over again, the curious are punished. I don’t think it’s a matter of saying a magic word; boom. Prescribing Yoga: Foods fighting cancer
http://prescribingyoga.blogspot.com/2010/12/foods-fighting-cancer.html
The practice of yoga and medicine. Monday, December 13, 2010. 8220;Autopsy studies from people who died in car accidents have shown that about 40% of women between the ages of 40 and 50 actually have microscopic cancers in their breasts. About 50% of men in their 50s and 60s have microscopic prostate cancers. And virtually 100% of us, by the time we reach our 70’s will have microscopic cancers growing in our thyroid. Yet without a blood supply, most of these cancers will never become dangerous. 8220;For ...

Prescribing Yoga: Omega 3's for telomeres
http://prescribingyoga.blogspot.com/2010/01/omega-3s-for-telomeres.html
The practice of yoga and medicine. Sunday, January 24, 2010. Omega 3's for telomeres. That just recently came out in JAMA, shows a relationship between high dietary intake of omega-3 fatty acids. And reduced telomere shortening. In coronary heart disease patients. It has already been shown that upping the intake omega-3’s improves survival in patients with coronary heart disease, but it wasn’t known exactly how. How can we get more omega-3 fatty acids in the diet? 8230; lots of places. As more studies on...

Prescribing Yoga: Getting enough omega-3's (without fish)
http://prescribingyoga.blogspot.com/2010/11/getting-enough-omega-3s-without-fish.html
The practice of yoga and medicine. Friday, November 26, 2010. Getting enough omega-3's (without fish). One of my concerns with being a non-fish eating vegetarian is the question of whether I get enough omega-3 fatty acids (“good fats”): Should I eat fish sometimes. Should I be taking fish-oil supplements. My body might need. Me to put those lox on my bagel and cream cheese? The other day my younger sister forwarded me a news alert. From the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. 8220;Current diet...

new york yogini: September 2013
http://newyorkyogini.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Impaled the third toe on my right foot this morning. Jumping through, after supta padagusthasana. I really thought I was done with this sort of stupid injury, as the last time was last thanksgiving. I was wearing my favorite black boots this morning just thinking how I was at least strong enough now not to do this to myself (jinx! The boots, of course, will once again be verboten, while the toe heals this fall. Damn. Does chocolate make bruises heal faster? Since i am sick,...

Injury and Doubt | Confessions of an Ashtanga Surf Yogi
https://surfingyogini.wordpress.com/2014/09/16/injury-and-doubt
Confessions of an Ashtanga Surf Yogi. Surf Gallery and Glossary. September 16, 2014. I hurt my ankle yesterday. I was doing tic-tacs…or rather, trying to jump back into downward dog from backbend after landing in backbend from handstand. So, that probably does not make sense…but if you get it, then I’m glad. 8221; Aimee said. “What happened? 8220;Landed wrong,” I said. All I knew was that my ankle hurt, and tears started coming out. My whole body shook and I became that little girl again on...One day aft...

ashtanga journal: how long is now???
http://ashtangajournal.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-long-is-now.html
Saturday, January 07, 2012. How long is now? 2012 has arrived… I was lucky to enter the new year with a loved one. I noted some of the things I would wish for the new year… We managed to keep up until the midnight but that was it, after few minutes I was happy to be sleeping, the chicken I am. I am now counting days! Well now is time to be here, but how long is now until I get there? And perhaps most importantly how long is now for me to have the courage to be myself fully? Pain, surrender, and serendipity in practice | Confessions of an Ashtanga Surf Yogi
https://surfingyogini.wordpress.com/2015/08/05/pain-surrender-and-serendipity-in-practice
Confessions of an Ashtanga Surf Yogi. Surf Gallery and Glossary. Pain, surrender, and serendipity in practice. August 5, 2015. There are days when the flow of energy is good, my body is loose yet strong, and practice feels effortless. Unfortunately, those days are pretty rare. Bhairasana and urdhva Kukku A, B, AND C without falling over like a rolly-poly bug! Tocking over without any help whatsoever! When I pick up my mat to finish in the back, my friend Nathalie throws me a laughing glance. There we...
