The Growing Goodsons: Alice in Wonderland's Race Team Halloween 2010

http://www.growinggoodsons.blogspot.com/2010/11/alice-in-wonderlands-race-team.html

Monday, November 15, 2010. Alice in Wonderland's Race Team Halloween 2010. We are at the point in our Growing Goodsons life that Halloween is a really big deal. All three of the kids love dressing up. And, the parents are game, too. Of course, Josh has always loved this holiday and has, in the past, gone all out. I would consider this particular year one of those all out years. Picture's with friends on the hay ride,. Finding the perfect pumpkin in the pumpkin patch,. We made it over to our friends', The...

The Growing Goodsons: September 2010

http://www.growinggoodsons.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 24, 2010. We ventured to the Great State Fair of Oklahoma last night. in the rain. It wasn't the usually exciting experience it's been many years before, but it was still a Great time- no rides, wet corn dogs, and all! I have such fond memories of the right of Fall that I want to give those memories to my kids. And, this year was a memory- complete with soggy shoes! Gus was thrilled to find a horse with the same name! I was thrilled he recognized his own name! Monday, September 20, 2010.

The Growing Goodsons: "Starburst"

http://www.growinggoodsons.blogspot.com/2011/12/starburst.html

Thursday, December 1, 2011. Piper is a very talented artist. It's "her thing." It's what she does. It's what she loves. So, for her birthday she got art lessons- 4 meetings with Leanne Wright followed by an "exhibit" at Sips Cafe in downtown Shawnee. The session that Piper participated in, they learned about watercolors. She had to draw little pictures in her sketch book and practice watercoloring at home. Here is the watercolor flower titled "Starburst," by Piper Goodson, age 7. Our wonderfully wild chi...

The Growing Goodsons: It's Turkey Time

http://www.growinggoodsons.blogspot.com/2010/11/its-turkey-time.html

Saturday, November 20, 2010. Yesterday, at P's school, was her class's turn to put on the Rocket Touchdown. South Rock Creek's school mascot, if you can call it a mascot, is a Rocket. This is the time of the week when the whole school gathers to be entertained by other classes and hear announcements, awards, and things of the like. So, I begged and pleaded that she re-consider her decision. Meanwhile, Red (I'm channeling The Pioneer Woman by calling Josh a different name than his real one, but everyo...

Growing Goodness - Home Blog

Alien Plants in Dallas. Sigh Many a great post idea has died in infancy because I've just been too busy. But here's something fun! What the heck is that? Honestly, if someone wanted to shoot a sci-fi flick on a budget about an alien planet, all he'd have to do would be to have it set in the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Conference Center in Dallas, TX. Under a massive glass atrium a little town is built, with a lazy stream, waterfalls, and weird plants. This one looks truly other-worldly. I hope I can keep up ...

As his former writing teacher, I’ve been asking him to write more than just his letters to me, but also to write creatively to capture and process his experiences. Below is an excerpt from his most recent letter to me and the poem that he wrote along with it (with some light editing to help his ideas shine over his grammar):. Is it life...

Growing Good Schools

This blog is a place to reflect, ask questions, and experiment. I am both a leader and teammate in our efforts to imagine a new school to prepare students for a changing world and workforce. Monday, February 19, 2018. Some of you know, I attended a principal meeting last week. Some of the meetings I have to attend are terrible, but this one wasn’t. The focus: How do we know that students are actually learning what our teachers intend for them to learn? We are under such incredible pressure to get our kid...

Growing Gourmets

Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Fluffy Angel Yeast Biscuits. Fluffy homemade angel yeast biscuits are to die for! I make all kinds of biscuits. Drop biscuits. Cheddar biscuits. Buttermilk biscuits. Sweet biscuits. Savory biscuits. I sound like Bubba sharing his shrimp recipes with Forrest Gump. They are all delish! But, I am sorry, there is NO substitute for fluffy angel yeast bisuits. These are the ones that rise so light and airy they could float away. And they melt in your mouth! Fluffy Angel Yeast Biscuits.

Growing Great Families...One Day at a Time

Growing Great Families. One Day at a Time. Monday, 30 April 2012. Six QuickTips to Raise Empathic Kids. Some people think empathy is either something you have or don't have. But truth be told, there are infinite degrees of empathy and all of us can benefit from greater knowledge (and practise) which will lead us to stronger empathic skillsets. Treat your children (right from birth) as an individual with a mind of their own. Show your children how 'making a face' can help them empathize with another. R...
