Helping home cooks to eat more sustainably. Union FoodLab and Makeshift Co-op. November 17, 2014. November 18, 2014. Union Food Lab and Makeshift Co-op. I went to a wonderfully progressive college. At one point I remember overhearing a spirited debate about a potential honey boycott because the bees might have been making the honey under duress. (Since I graduated, the bees have unionized and are now allowed to add at least one dependent onto the company health plan). Many of us do not have the resources...

Helping home cooks to eat more sustainably. The Walking Dead Broccoli Rabe. June 6, 2013. The Walking Dead Broccoli Rabe. These should have died, but they somehow survived. said the farmer. The taste is hard to describe but if you can imagine the freshest tasting green you’ve ever tasted and then add a little hint of an almost honey-like sweetness, that’s pretty close. Wintered Broccoli Rabe with Chili Flakes and Sherry Vinegar. Farmers Market Bill $4/4 Servings ($1/serving). Saute rabe for 5-7 minutes.

We Like to Cook, and Eat. Spreading love, one meal at a time. Tuesday, January 8, 2013. A Healthy, Hearty New Year - Salmon Steaks in Spicy Tomato Sauce. Well, all the eating and merriment sure was fun, wasn't it? 6 cloves garlic, roughly chopped. 1 serrano chile, roughtly chopped with seeds (remove for a less spicy sauce). 2 Tbs caraway seeds. 1 1/2 tsp cayenne (recipe called for a 1/4 tsp, I somehow read 1 1/2 tsp; it was delicious). 8 Tbs vegetable oil. 2 Tbs tomato paste. 2 Tbs lemon juice. We Like to Cook, and Eat. Spreading love, one meal at a time. Monday, February 11, 2013. Chopped This" - Wedding Shower Recipe #1. Ie with plenty of alcohol in it). People seemed to put a lot of thought into deciding what to send, and I got several recipes that were clearly handed down over generations, which really gives me a thrill. First in the box, filed under appetizer, is a recipe from my friend Samantha (whose husband blogs over at Home Cook Locavore. This recipe makes enough to put out for a part...

In fact it has just begun to snow again. So what better time to share my new favorite hot drink? Making it maybe the world's most disappointing hot toddy ever). Poking around the internet recently I figured out that things could be much much better. You can use steeped tea, of course, instead of plain hot water! You can sweeten it! 1 1/2...

We Like to Cook, and Eat: November 2012
http://weliketocookandeat.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
We Like to Cook, and Eat. Spreading love, one meal at a time. Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Leek and Sweet Potato Soup. This recipe was included in our first winter CSA newsletter. It is actually a great combination (I was happy not to be including any type of squash in this soup, to be honest). I made a couple of adjustments, just to bring down the calories a little bit - butter and cream are great and everything, but maybe not for a soup I wanted to enjoy several weeknights in a row! 1 Tbs curry powder.

Jenean and I went apple picking with our parents this past weekend, a traditional New England fall activity I have actually never done before. It was fun! Festive, even. The orchard, up in Amesbury MA, is a really beautiful family farm, and seemed to have about 20 varieties of apple tree growing on gorgeous rolling hills. I loved as a kid). Whole Wheat Apple Muffi...

We Like to Cook, and Eat. Spreading love, one meal at a time. Wednesday, February 20, 2013. Do you know about pupusas? The adorable, chubby, filled cousin of the corn tortilla? The doppelganger of the arepa? There used to be a Salvadoran restaurant down the street from us, appropriately named Pupusa (RIP, why did you leave us? But now it's time to start watching for robins and, soon, listening for peepers. I can hardly wait! Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Just left a question for standstillandknow, and the word-to-prove-you're-not-a-robot to fill in was "euggism" - such a charming, curious little word!
