月: 2月, 2015. 2月 2, 2015. 例えばニュートン物理学の 眼鏡 を通して見た世界は、粒子 質点 とその相互作用からなる世界です。 そこに 生物 や 貨幣 といったモノは出てきません。 そしてそうした眼鏡で見た世界には、もちろんもはや 質点 は現れず、代わりに 真核生物 や 労働 などがでてくるのです。 むしろ良い大工 物理学者、化学者、etc. になるためには、一度すべてを釘 慣性系、化学反応、etc. として見るようにするための訓練が必要なのではないか、つまりその学問の 眼鏡 を通して世界を見るための訓練を積む必要があるのではないか。 その眼鏡は大層クールで変わっていて、それをかけると 電子 やら 状態の重ね合わせ やら、それはそれは不思議なものが見えるそうです *1. 特に、量子力学の眼鏡で見た世界における ある ということと、裸眼で見た世界での ある ということが、なんか本当に同じなんだろうか、という疑問が生じてきたわけです。 このように、科学哲学は決して机上の空論ではなく、まさに 現場で起こっている ことなのです *2.

月: 9月, 2014. 9月 21, 2014. 科学哲学 というあまり耳慣れない学問を専門にしてると、 それって何を研究する学問なんでしょうか と良く聞かれます。 生物学とは生物を理解するための学問です と言われたら、最初は ああ、そうか と頷くけど、でもよく考えてみればこの答えも今ひとつ曖昧。 生物の 何を 理解するの また何をもって 理解した と言えるの 一口に 生物を理解する といっても沢山の仕方がありますよね。 実際、今日の学問分類では、前者のような問いは生理学や発生 分子生物学などといったいわゆる ライフサイエンス 、後者の問いは進化遺伝学、古生物学や生態学などの進化系生物学で扱われるのが一般的です。 まず、生物と同様、科学も様々なパーツ 法則 概念 測定 実験装置などなど の複雑な絡み合いによって動いています。 科学哲学の一つのゴールは、こうした科学の内的な ロジック ないし メカニズム をできるだけ明らかにすることです。 そんなわけで、一口に 科学を理解する といっても複数のやり口があり、これが他の学問と同様、分野の多様性 あるいは 非一枚岩性 を生み出しています。

月: 10月, 2014. 10月 24, 2014. じゃあ説明って何でしょう ということで、今回は 説明とは何か ということについて少し突っ込んで考えてみたいと思います。 とりわけ 科学的に説明 するとは アリストテレスはかつて、説明には四つの種類があると考えました。 例えば家が立つためには、まず風雨をしのぐという目的 目的因 があり、家の設計図 形相因 があり、素材 素材因 があり、そして大工仕事 作用因 がなければならない。 そしてニュートン力学の誕生を前後して、目的論的説明はほぼ完全に排除されるようになりました 少なくとも物理学 運動論 においては。 こうした現象はどのように説明されるのでしょうか 生物にだけ目的因を認める しかし近世の思想家の多く 例えばデカルトやラ メトリ は、生命現象も基本的には機械仕掛けと変わらないはずだ、と考えました。 この問題に取り組んだのが、カントの 判断力批判 です *1. このカントの考えは、18世紀ドイツにおける近代生物学 比較解剖学の誕生、とりわけその立役者であるブルーメンバッハ Blumenbach, 1752-1840 に大きな影響を与えました *3.
