Second Language Acquisition: March 2008
http://egiap-secondlanguageacquisition.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 24, 2008. After reading this article, I began to wonder what the point of theory is for teachers then. Ellis seems to say even if the theory is good it should be thrown out of the classroom if it is not applicable. That's great, but what happens when a theory is applicable, but does horribly on the theory critique scale? Ellis gives a few examples of this. Should we still use it? Isn't there a possibility of that resulting in hurting our students? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Second Language Acquisition: More Second Language Acquisition Fun
http://egiap-secondlanguageacquisition.blogspot.com/2008/04/more-second-language-acquisition-fun.html
Monday, April 14, 2008. More Second Language Acquisition Fun. Alptekin offers up some new criteria for a new pedagogic model for teaching English for the purpose of "international and intercultural communication." English in this situation should not be taught by a monolingual native speaker, it should aim to make learners comfortable speaking English in any setting, and it should incorporate the background of the language learner (63). ct822: Ellis on UG
http://amberct822.blogspot.com/2008/04/ellis-on-ug.html
Wednesday, April 2, 2008. I was left very confused. I'm not sure whether Ellis favors the theory or not. Shouldn't a theory be written with the classroom teacher in mind? If not, what use does the theory have at all. What purpose does it serve if it can do nothing for the teachers that deal with the problems of Second Language Acquisition every day? I think the theory does stand strong as a theory but it is not practical, so can it be said that it is a good theory? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

ct822: Critical Period Hypothesis
http://amberct822.blogspot.com/2008/02/critical-period-hypothesis.html
Sunday, February 17, 2008. I think you're on to something with the "muscle memory" thing. Maybe it's like learning to throw a baseball or swing a golf club. If you start early it can become natural and graceful - but if you pick up the sports late in life - becoming effective is a little tougher - and rarely aesthetically pleasing. But that makes language less a cognitive domain and more of a . what? I don't wanna go down the primrose path of behaviorism, but. Maybe someone else can pick up on it. Muscle...

http://egiap-secondlanguageacquisition.blogspot.com/2008/02/lesson-4-bilingual-education.html
Wednesday, February 13, 2008. Lesson 4: Bilingual education. This looks great. I like how you related the post to a specific reading. Break future posts into a few more paragraphs. Keep up the great work. February 27, 2008 at 8:54 AM. March 4, 2008 at 2:38 PM. Is it fair for them to have to struggle with two new languages?
