The collection contains images stretching back to the late 19th century and whilst the vast majority were taken in the Kirklees area, there are significant numbers taken in other areas of the UK, in Europe and in North Africa. Many of the original images are on glass plate negatives and digitisation has provided the only practical means to make these available for viewing. Copies of the images may be purchased and information on how to order is contained on the Buying Images.

Welcome to the Kirklees Image Archive. Now contains 61842 images. Photographs taken by the late Reg Stone (1921-2011) of Skelmanthorpe have been added to the archive. These include wartime images taken during his time in India and Burma between 1943 – 1946. Also included are photographs showing the post-war local textile industry in which he worked, ones showing the results of the collapse of Emley Moor tower in 1969, and the building of the mast familiar today.
