A Thousand Fragments ~ #0046 the most beautiful thing
http://www.athousandfragments.com/the-most-beautiful-thing
The most beautiful thing. The most beautiful thing is to watch your children fall asleep. Early on, the relief that they are finally at rest too often outweighs an appreciation of the grace of their descent towards it. Later, there comes an awareness and it is a hammer-blow of knowledge that they will wake one day more old. There is nothing that can be lived again, nothing which can be clawed back. Between crying and tears. Posted 25 March 2014 at 21.24. Posted 27 March 2014 at 20.32. 8220;…that th...

Laquo; goodbye: 3/3 (a mother and a son). Posted 14 December 2013 at 01.49. As the mother of a very freshly minted 14 year old, I so appreciate the beauty of these lovely moments you share with Bessie. Just as I love the surprise and simplicity of my big girl’s gestures when she comes up to me on a whim and leans into me–head well over my shoulder now–and says, “Mommy, I want a hug.”. A Thousand Fragments ~ #0006 rewind

Good morning.’ offers the man at reception. Much younger than me, black jumper and tie, white shirt, black skin and an embracing smile. Yes’ is all I can manage by return. My brain can’t quite comprehend ‘blowout’. I look to the tyre of the Mini Cooper parked in the foyer, absurdly mocking both our worries. I start reading, ‘ENTER THE PRIZE DRAW AND YOU COULD WIN ’ and as I do the John Travolta film,. I ponder ever so briefly an idea of God, something I instinctively do whenever someone brings the topic ...

Charlotte’s handbag sits open on the counter and there, inside, is a card from my brother. There is a teddy bear embossed onto the front along with the words,. 8216;To my darling niece’. A Thousand Fragments ~ #0005 goodnight

8216;Are you still awake? 8216;I’ve been trying to sleep. But it’s hard to get to sleep.’. 8216;I know.’. 8216;Do you think you might be able to get to sleep soon? 8216;You could stay for a while? Then I could get to sleep.’. I correct two awkwardly stray tendrils of hair that have fallen to obscure her face, using my free hand to sweep two fingers and stitch them back behind her ear. 8216;Is Mummy back yet? 8216;Soon. She’ll be in her car now.’. 8216;Can you stay until Mummy gets back? I wish you could ...

A Thousand Fragments ~ #0001 clouds

This seems as good a definition of love as any that I know. I pull the cover: close clouds, sky, outside; resist its obvious wonder. I think she catches me smile here, treading the waters of reverie and through that gesture of upturned mouth and dimpled cheek, and via this wrap of flesh around flesh, I try to say something so much louder than the dull echo of those three limp syllables. Posted 08 December 2011 at 18.21. You were meant to write, Matt. This is so beautiful x. Looking forward to reading more.

Many years after first seeing those paintings, I would come to recall them while watching footage of people falling from the Twin Towers grasping an image familiar and understood while trying to comprehend something so brutally uncommon and desperate. The most beautiful thing. Posted 14 March 2014 at 00.24. Posted 17 March 2014 at 02.29. This is beautifully haunting, it is also romantic and dark. Posted 29 March 2014 at 08.32. Thank you, always.
