Create. innovate. explore. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. England’s first gift. September 14, 2014. I am in England now, as an adult, in one of real life’s beautiful adventures. This morning, as I rose from sleep to wander the lofty spaces of the country manor that has become my temporary home, I found myself in a drawing room with floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out on the morning mist. Many dreams do not come to be. Other dreams, once realized, shape themselves around the fac...

Friends, Romans, Countrymen
Friends, Romans, Countrymen. Sunday, June 27, 2010. My brother, John, arrived in the Eternal City on the 13th of June. We were going to have an adventure. We fled the Roman humidity for Espana! Our next day we went to the fantabulous Picasso Museum. Picasso lived in Barcelona during different periods in his life. A large part of the collection are his almost obsessive musings on Velasquez's. Him: Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian -. Thursday, June 24, 2010. And gazing out at a spectacular cupola that just...

RUSSIA!
Saturday, May 30, 2009. Well, this morning I officially said goodbye to Russia. My really sweet new Russian friend Katya stayed up all night with me and rode with me in the taxi at 4am to the airport. It was a completely bittersweet moment when it hit me that soon I get to see everyone I've missed so dearly these past 4 months, but at the same time, I have to leave the place that's been my entire life for these same past 4 months. It's just plain strange. 7 Milk. not so much the taste, rather the adv...

Lauren In Seattle
Wednesday, October 7, 2009. Proving What I Already Know. Ha ha ha. I definitely don't consider myself brainy. I think I'm pretty smart but not brainy. Although according to U.S. News Washington State ranks #3 for the brainiest states in the U.S. We are right behind Washington D.C. and Maryland. Lauren in Senegal | My year out in Joal, Senegal with Project Trust
My year out in Joal, Senegal with Project Trust. There and back again. How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on… when in your heart you begin to understand… there is no going back? So I’m back from Senegal. Writing this blog exactly a year on from the departure date I awaited with so much fear, excitement, regret, worry, stress etc, I realise how much has changed in that time. On the 13. And the same question came to me as the two guys walked into the distance, and out of sight.

My South African Adventure
Sunday, May 17, 2009. I'm still in Africa. I'm coming home in 5 days. I'll write about my last weeks in Africa once I'm home. Sunday, May 3, 2009. Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but there hasn't been much going on! Seriously, just normal daily life in PE and homework! We didn't have school last Monday because it was a public holiday, I'm not sure what it was but there wasn't anything really going on for it. So no class and no volunteering left us with a whole day of paper writing! So last night, abou...

It's All Fun Games Until You Move To South Africa – Lauren Devine 2012-2013. All the details (if a little sporadic) of my gap year working for Outward Bound in South Africa, as it happens. Johannesburg. Nairobi. Home. So Long, South Africa. As emotional as it is to write about my last couple of weeks in South Africa with Outward Bound, I think it might help me to get closure and move on from the life I had to the life I’m moving into at home. (England home, that is.) So here you are. There are so many th...
