8220;I believe in God like I believe in the sunrise. Not because I can see it, but because I can see all that it touches.” -C.S. Lewis. Tuesday, February 6, 2007. This is the part of my blog where you (the readers) ask questions, and I (me) answer them. But it only works if you ask the questions. You can ask me, "What did you have for breakfast this morning? Or "How do socio. Economic status and race relations manifest themselves in the sugar cane industry of post-apartheid South Africa? Photos from The Y.

8220;I believe in God like I believe in the sunrise. Not because I can see it, but because I can see all that it touches.” -C.S. Lewis. Saturday, February 17, 2007. So I have the flu again. Can you believe it? I have been sick since Tuesday and not too happy about it. I've made it through most of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency books (by Andrew McCall Smith) and highly recommend them. The story is set in Botswana and there's quite a bit of cultural info woven in. Never thought I would be grateful for ...

8220;I believe in God like I believe in the sunrise. Not because I can see it, but because I can see all that it touches.” -C.S. Lewis. Thursday, March 1, 2007. I don't know where to start. Simply said, it's beautiful here - and a much welcomed break from the city-speed of Durban. After we arrived yesterday we went up to the top of a big hill with a cliff dropping right down to the ocean for "sundowners" (drinks at sundown). Dinner last night was fish on the braai (bbq) and some girls from the villag...

8220;I believe in God like I believe in the sunrise. Not because I can see it, but because I can see all that it touches.” -C.S. Lewis. Thursday, March 8, 2007. To Getting Stuck in Coffee Bay". Nate - my fellow American (who is from Indiana and also grew up thinking Indiana Beach was the most wonderful place in the world) - has been at Coffee Shack for almost 3 weeks now. Much like me, he only intended to stay a day or two. The only way I have been able to console myself about leaving has been to promise...
life in durban: Life Back Home
http://lifeindurban.blogspot.com/2007/04/life-back-home.html
8220;I believe in God like I believe in the sunrise. Not because I can see it, but because I can see all that it touches.” -C.S. Lewis. Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Generally speaking, coming back home after 3 months in "paradise" is hard. The 4" of snow we had last night and the week and a half we went through without sunshine didn't help. The difference in Durban is that all of this is happening right alongside extreme poverty. In Minneapolis living in poverty means a family's income is less than about $...

Life is lived forwards, but understood backwards." -Soren Kierkegaard. On my playlist these days: Fake Empire by The National. It was used in Obama's Signs of Hope and Change. Video sans lyrics - but I'm thinking it might have been chosen because. Of the lyrics. Hmm. (Good work Obama campaign.). Stay out super late tonight. Picking apples, making pies. Put a little something in our lemonade and take it with us. We’re half-awake in a fake empire. We’re half-awake in a fake empire. Do our gay ballet on ice.

Life is lived forwards, but understood backwards." -Soren Kierkegaard. This is the worst time of year. March in Minnesota is yucky: cold, dreary, dirty. The newness of winter and the freshness of the snow are gone. It drags. What makes it even harder is that two years ago at this time. I'm watching the sun set outside my window at work just now and it is gorgeous - reminds me very much of this Coffee Bay sunset, two years ago. Something about the hues are just right. The must try Turkey Brine recipe. November 26, 2013. In the few hundred years that we have had Thanksgiving there has been an never ending quest to figure out how to cook the perfect turkey. Do you cook it upside down, what temperture is it really done at and of course do you cook it stuffed or not? Well this year all the rage is to “brine” your turkey. What does that mean? Here’s What To Do:. For a 16 to 20 pound turkey:. 1 cup brown sugar. 1 tablespoon whole peppercorns. 5 stems fresh thyme. Back in th...

Watched Burn After Reading with my mate, Bert, tonight. I enjoyed it! But they were a bunch of the most awful people one might ever care to watch. A whole nest of self-centred, manipulative and yet strangely watchable people. Very excited - Bert has tickets for Bill Bailey tomorrow and has asked me to go with him. I will be looking forward to it all day. Posted by gilamonster : 22:40 0 comments. I think fun was had by all the six or nearly six year old girls - well there was a lot of screaming. Altho...

Where I like to eat – a work in progress. Spent an enjoyable New Year’s Day down at Snuff Mills, near Frenchay in Bristol, looking for dogs because watching dogs is fun. It’s a very good spot for this, if you are a fan of dogs. It’s very pretty there. Weir at Snuff Mills. The light was particularly autumnal and bright,. This dog was SOOOO happy to have a ball and lots of mud to run around in. You couldn’t keep him out of the water either. Nor this one…. This one gave everyone a good soaking…. I agree who...

Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Word of the month: busy. 1 engaged in action. 2 full of activity. 3 foolishly or intrusively active. 4 full of distracting detail. My point is, all this activity has put this blog on the back burner.like, way in the back. It used to occur to me at least weekly to blog. But tonight was the first time since my last post about 6 weeks ago. So please forgive me as I race to the finish line of this school year.hopefully I'll post more frequently this summer! Millie is getting so big.
