A topnotch WordPress.com site. May 22: 11.5 miles. June 3, 2014. June 25, 2014. We’re on the train back to Edinburgh, so I’m going to try catch up on a week’s worth of walking. From train trip to Fort William…pure Scotland! We arrived in Fort William on Wed, May 21and stayed at The Brevins…a nice B&B that had only been purchased 3 weeks earlier by a young couple, Vincent and Brenda (get it? Sarah as we started off…. Pretty exciting stuff, huh? We finished along a lovely forest trail, and entered the smal...

A topnotch WordPress.com site. May 24: 21 miles. June 18, 2014. June 25, 2014. The day I’d been angsting over for months! Peter drove us to Inverlair close to where he had picked us up the previous day, and we almost immediately walked by this lovely loch. It being a Saturday, there were people everywhere starting off on hikes up the mountains, biking, etc. Then things got pastoral…. And then we were in some northern woodsy looking country walking along a forestry road:. Evening light from the Rumblie.

A topnotch WordPress.com site. July 2, 2014. Although we love each other dearly, Sarah and I took a break today and went our separate ways. I wandered around Edinburgh, visiting a yarn shop (and buying yarn…how could I help it? And a pub, eating lunch, going to Greyfriars, and checking out the National Museum. Here are some pictures I took around the city. Another view of the castle from Old Town. Just a great display! Next I headed for the National Museum. 12,000 year old giant deer skeleton. I spent th...

A topnotch WordPress.com site. May 19, 2014. May 22, 2014. Also have an issue with pix while on the trip because I have nowhere to upload the ones from my camera. So I will attempt to take at least a few every day from my tablet and load the rest when I get back or find a computer somewhere. Endurance, shoes, etc…. May 12, 2014. A week from yesterday! So glad I’m traveling with someone I know I will have fun with. I dare someone to try and stop the yakkamatic! Newer posts →. May 28: Back to Edinburgh.

A topnotch WordPress.com site. May 30: Edinburgh, the Final Day. July 3, 2014. On our last day in Edinburgh, Sarah and I have decided to climb Arthur’s Seat and then head for the Museum of Contemporary Art. As we started walking towards Arthur’s Seat, we passed this charming cottage on St. Leonard’s Lane, right in the middle of Edinburgh! On our longish walk to the Museum, we spotted this interesting fashion statement. A different way of thinking about men in kilts! A pretty typical Edinburgh street.

A topnotch WordPress.com site. May 28: Back to Edinburgh. June 30, 2014. Time to get the train back to Edinburgh. We will definitely miss the Highlands. Sigh! We take a late morning train from Aviemore Station. This was not our train (haha), but an excursion train that takes folks on a trip through Cairngorms National Park. Wish we had more time…. To my dismay, we found a real dearth of kilted men in Scotland, but I managed to get this blurry picture of a taxi driver loading the trailer pulled by his cab.

A topnotch WordPress.com site. May 26: 15.5 miles. June 26, 2014. Our 5th day on the trail…we’re starting to feel seasoned. Starting off from Newtonmore, we take the Wildcat Trail north past a hill loaded with gorse…although the day is cloudy with some light rain, all that yellow gives the sense of sunshine. We move onto the Loch Gynack track in an expansive open area with a very old stone wall. The trail along the loch goes through a hobbit-ish wood…. This was caught, and I got to eat it!
