Great North Run September 2010: September 2010
http://dongnr.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Great North Run September 2010. Thursday, 23 September 2010. Great North Run update. I think it's fair to say that my legs have been pretty sore for the last few days. They are okay while I am up and about but stiff after sitting behind a desk at work all day. So that's that, thanks very much for taking the time to read this blog. Intermittent service will be resumed at the following link shortly: http:/ donran.wordpress.com/. Tuesday, 21 September 2010. Having scoffed a large portion of spaghetti bologn...

Great North Run September 2010: June 2010
http://dongnr.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Great North Run September 2010. Tuesday, 29 June 2010. Tonight was the Jogscotland 5k. In Inverleith Park and the Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh. Reading about the event beforehand, most people who had done the race before suggested getting there early since it often gets busy at the registration tent in the buildup to the race. I didn't really want to travel through to the event in my running gear so I was surprised/disappointed to find that Inverleith Park was somewhat lacking in adjacent bushes/trees to g...

Great North Run September 2010: July 2010
http://dongnr.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Great North Run September 2010. Saturday, 31 July 2010. Too far, too fast. Saturday is the shortest, but also my least favourite run of the week. For a change I thought it would be a good idea to do the normal 2.6 mile route, in lieu of a 10 minute easy run, but take it slow because of the longer 40 minute run scheduled for tomorrow. Tell a slightly different story with the first mile at 8m 23s, second at 8m 22s and third at 8m 27s pace, so the session was fairly quick and steady throughout. The time is ...

Great North Run September 2010: August 2010
http://dongnr.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Great North Run September 2010. Tuesday, 31 August 2010. The answer to the conundrum posed on Sunday was 'yes'. My legs were very sore on Monday morning. It wasn't a scientific test but the stiffness was probably caused by the absence of any cycling on Sunday afternoon/evening. Chalk up another lesson learned which I'll try not to let happen again during my preparations for the Great North Run. Fingers crossed my legs will be feeling okay tomorrow. Training schedule: 10/20 min easy run. It's fair to say ...

Great North Run September 2010: Brrrrrrrr...
http://dongnr.blogspot.com/2010/09/brrrrrrrr.html
Great North Run September 2010. Tuesday, 14 September 2010. It's getting late so I'll try to keep this short and sweet. Conditions were hardly ideal for a run tonight with the temperature sitting at 8°C, gusty 20mph wind and scattered showers. I was determined to stick to the training schedule though so wrapped up my top half as warm as possible in a beanie, lycra base layer, long sleeved cycling jersey, windproof cycling jacket and a pair of gloves. Colin sent me a link. Route The Tyne Bridge. Apart, it...

Great North Run September 2010: The main event...
http://dongnr.blogspot.com/2010/09/main-event.html
Great North Run September 2010. Tuesday, 21 September 2010. Well this is it, the event that the last four months of training has been geared towards. The past week has been pretty stressful as I did my best to avoid any kind of injury or illness which would prevent my participation in the event. It took a lot longer than anticipated to get everything ready on Saturday morning. Not being familiar with the hotel or anything else related to the trip I set out to cover every eventuality. Mrs M stayed on the ...

Great North Run September 2010: Ultimate/penultimate training session...
http://dongnr.blogspot.com/2010/09/ultimatepenultimate-training-session.html
Great North Run September 2010. Thursday, 16 September 2010. It was pretty cold and breezy again tonight so I wasn't overly keen to set off on a run. Funnily enough, having left work a bit early to beat the throngs of people heading to see the Pope at Bellahouston Park, I wanted to go out but had other things to do first. Unfortunately though the later I left it the harder it got to get myself in gear. In mind it seemed to be the logical choice of route. So that's it. perhaps. the observant among...It ha...

Great North Run September 2010: The Final Countdown...
http://dongnr.blogspot.com/2010/09/final-countdown.html
Great North Run September 2010. Sunday, 12 September 2010. It's getting close now with only a week to go until the Great North Run. I have been amusing and scaring the life out of myself in equal measure by reading up on the event. The article which stuck with me most, and occupied my thoughts during the run today, was the one entitled ' The Great North Run. Why don't they tell people it's all uphill? Which is an interesting and amusing read. When setting off I didn't even know which direction I was goin...
