Musings & Observations

Monday, August 30, 2010. His widow, Dawn, didn’t schedule a memorial for him until this past August. I didn’t ask about the reasons for the delay, although I’m sure I understand them. His loss hit me hard, and I rarely had the opportunity to see him; I couldn’t imagine the magnitude of the pain she must have been feeling. A child of the ‘60s, Steve had the obligatory long hair, torn jeans, and (to me) psychedelic tastes. (That's Steve, on the left, in one of my favorite pictures of him.). Selfishly, I wa...

Musings & Observations: December 2005

http://musingsnobservations.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 30, 2005. Is Brokeback Mountain a Hit? Or is the media trying to make it one? First of all, I couldn't care less if you want to watch Brokeback Mountain, just as I couldn't care less if you want to watch King Kong, or Cheaper by the Dozen 2, or any other movie out there. But it seems that someone. Really wants Brokeback Mountain to be considered a "hit." Consider this blurb from the AP wire service:. This blurb is under the headline: 'Brokeback' a Box Office Success So Far. 2 "The Chroni...

Musings & Observations: No Job Is Beneath You

http://musingsnobservations.blogspot.com/2009/01/no-job-is-beneath-you.html

Tuesday, January 06, 2009. No Job Is Beneath You. So that they would pay you every week. So I've done everything: I picked apples. I pumped gas and learned how to change oil, tune-up cars, do brakes, and replace clutches, among other things. I worked retail in several different places - and one lovely task involved unloading a tractor-trailer full of charcoal briquets at one particular drug store I worked at. I drove limos, worked in radio, worked as a statistician, and have (finally! It's a job. It ...

Musings & Observations: April 2005

http://musingsnobservations.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 30, 2005. 55-0 That’s the score from a girls’ high school softball game in North Carolina last week. When West Charlotte visited Central Cabarrus, Central pounded West, putting 30 runs on the board in the first inning and 25 in the second, before the game was called. What kind of sportsmanship does that teach? Jill is going to be psychologically damaged by this devastating blow! We can’t have that! You know what’s worse than losing 55-0? 220-0 NFL: 77-0. It happens. But through sports, we...

Musings & Observations: What's the opposite of gouging?

http://musingsnobservations.blogspot.com/2008/12/whats-opposite-of-gouging.html

Monday, December 08, 2008. What's the opposite of gouging? I've talked about gas prices a few times, most notably here. That's back when gas jumped a ridiculous 60 cents between morning and night, for no apparent reason. Back then, in September 2005, $3.57 a gallon was not unheard of. Last summer, in June and July 2008, it was even worse. I paid more than $4.00 a gallon at some points. Can I get a 32 inch LCD HDTV anywhere for $200 today? Nope Is my Quik Chek coffee costing me only 37 cents a cup now?

Musings & Observations: September 2005

http://musingsnobservations.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 29, 2005. Can you read that back to me? Some of the funniest slips of the tongue, mistatements, and outright mistakes, happen in open court, or during a deposition of a witness, when a lawyer is either unprepared, or trying to get too cute when questioning a witness. I’ve collected excerpts from transcripts over the years that, if nothing else, are just enough to give even the greatest litigator a reason to pause. Here are just a few. A No, I don’t remember at all. Links to this post.

Ask A Lawyer: March 2005

http://askalawyer.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 23, 2005. Do you think I have a case? The question "Do I have a case? Is always difficult to answer, especially when I am faced with limited facts. In this litigious age, it seems that everyone is happy to sue anyone for anything. The question really is do you have a case that has a reasonable chance of success (not that that question is any easier to answer). You state that you had "problems" with a trade but do not tell me what kind of problems. Did the trade go through? I'm not trying...

Ask A Lawyer: April 2005

Saturday, April 16, 2005. Houses and "Significant Others". Is this a good idea? Only my name on the mortgage but both of our names on the deed? Thanks for your help. You’re really asking me two questions. The first is, should you buy the house from your landlord. The second is, should you put your significant other (and isn’t that a loaded phrase? On the deed, but not on the mortgage. They are two different questions, which (as you might expect) require two different answers. First Email me at "askalawye...

Ask A Lawyer: Wow, the mail box is full

http://askalawyer.blogspot.com/2008/12/wow-mail-box-is-full.html

Tuesday, December 09, 2008. Wow, the mail box is full. Yeah, I know. I took a year off. But it's been a bad year. If you're interested, I'll explain my absence either here. But you're not here for that personal crap. You've got questions. Let's see if we can get some answers for you. Posted by David Kendall at 12:50 PM. In 1999, I started an obscure little website called askalawyer. This blog is the natural evolution of that site. Here, you can ask a lawyer (me, of course! New Jersey, United States.

Ask A Lawyer: June 2005

http://askalawyer.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 07, 2005. Q Is there a time frame for filing a claim against a store? I fell in a store . . . [and I] thought I was alright; a few aches and pains that I thought would go away (I did not go to the hospital) but my arm has gotten worse and I am going to have it x-rayed. Is the store still responsible for medical bills or have I passed the time allowed? By the way, I was working at the time; they are aware of this accident. Posted by David Kendall at 11:46 PM. New Jersey, United States.

Ask A Lawyer: November 2005

http://askalawyer.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 10, 2005. Don't press charges, and I'll pay you what I owe you. . . .". I am owed $330 by someone for a purchased plane ticket. This same person assaulted me and I originally decided not to press charges. I received a letter in the mail stating that I would recieve my money if I signed something saying I would never press charges. Is this legal? Is there a way to get my money without signing this? Now, as to the the demand for a waiver of your right to press criminal charges before you...

Ask A Lawyer: August 2005

http://askalawyer.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 27, 2005. What's the matter with kids these days? In the state of South Carolina, can a person be expunged for a felony? This involves 2 people one of which used a play gun to rob a cabbie of $8. Art, Photography and Film. Welcome to NCC’s Journal of the Arts! 8220;American Journey”. 8220;The Poem I hate. In complete anger with this guy. I don’t know if it’s his suits or those ugly eyes. This guy’s eyes are a pitfall then he has a nerve to say he will build a wall? Does he know anything at all? He says he hates illegals while his hair do. That should be illegal. And his views about the people are miscued. Seems like he has an issue with immigrants. But his wife is an immigrant? Just like his views.

Musings And Confessions of a Wandering Mind

Musings And Confessions of a Wandering Mind. Monday, January 8, 2018. But whether we do or don’t, if you ever want to read through what runs in my head, this is where you should head. It’s not pearls of wisdom or any magical formula, it’s just my take on things. It is everything I want to tell you, woman to woman, as your mom, friend, and confidante (hopefully! It is everything I want you to know if I don’t get around to telling you myself when the time comes. 8221; Sounds absurd? All I want you to do is...

Muse

The musings of a small person making her way with recycled wisdom through a very big world. November 18, 2011. I Have Read the Internet. In my incessant attempts to avoid any type of school work, house work, or social life, it would appear as though I've watched everything there is to watch, read everything there is to read, and pinned everything there is to pin. Anybody have any ideas? Because otherwise I'm going to have to get down to the dirty business of being a student. November 15, 2011. If you hav...

Musings and Melodies

Thursday, March 12, 2009. Lessons learnt this week, in the hard way. Start *doing* the assignment *on* the day it is given, especially when the assignment involves lab work. . If I get stressed out, it costs pretty dearly! I cannot eat cabbage 2 times a day, 5 days a week :(. If midterm week was so dreadful, I cant wait to die during the finals week! One reading with full concentration can do wonders. (I repent not doing my undergrad here). Finally, be proactive almost always. Sunday, March 8, 2009.

Like many kids in this country, when I was a boy I was always reminded not to waste food because There are starving children in Africa who would love to have that good food. Musings, Notes and Quotes. Thursday, January 2, 2014. I find it interesting that the past few days have brought many a column and opinion piece on what we should leave behind from 2013, including words and phrases that have far out-worn their welcome. View my complete profile. Thursday, March 11, 2010. I am writing today because after last night, I think I am officially losing my mind over comps. Is it possible to have a recurring nightmare over the course of one night? I feel like I had only one dream last night, and it repeated itself about 17 times. I still feel a panic attack coming on just thinking about. There isn't enough time and I'm panicking again. I'm so nervous that I won't do well next week, and my degree depends on it. Okee doke.
