Musings, Notes & Quotes

Musings, Notes and Quotes. Thursday, January 2, 2014. I find it interesting that the past few days have brought many a column and opinion piece on what we should leave behind from 2013, including words and phrases that have far out-worn their welcome. Today's Wall Street Journal. Featured a piece where prominent CEOs provided input on what business terms should go bye-bye. And, an online column from Esquire. Musings, Notes & Quotes: Mad Men--where we left off

http://musingsnotesquotes.blogspot.com/2013/04/mad-men-where-we-left-off.html

Musings, Notes and Quotes. Sunday, April 7, 2013. Mad Men- where we left off. Those last words uttered on Season Five of Mad Men. A show with minimalist dialogue, left viewers wondering what that question portended for Season Six, premiering tonight on AMC. In just a few hours, we'll get a chance to find out on the opening, two-hour first episode of this new season. Here's where we left the main characters after Season Five's conclusion. Don heard the question "Are you alone? Pete brazenly conducted an a...

Musings, Notes & Quotes: July 2013

http://musingsnotesquotes.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Musings, Notes and Quotes. Saturday, July 6, 2013. A story in this morning's Wall Street Journal. Coupled with our family vacation of last week put me in a reminiscing mood- thoughts of summers long past and how different those summers were compared to today's summers as an adult, father and grandfather. Article lamented the difference between those long-ago summers for we Baby Boomers and the summers of today's youth, and how we made those summers of the '60s seemingly last forever. I contrast the summe...

Musings, Notes & Quotes: The best shows for dudes

http://musingsnotesquotes.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-best-shows-for-dudes.html

Musings, Notes and Quotes. Saturday, March 30, 2013. The best shows for dudes. A well-known sports columnist, who used to reside in Kansas City, tweeted out his top ten list of all-time favorite TV shows. His list inspired me to think about which shows are the best for guys, in a television environment where programming focused on men is limited given the impact that sports has against this crowd. Here's my top 10 list:. 1 Sons of Anarchy. Are there better shows on TV? 6 Game of Thrones. Don't forget, th...

Musings, Notes & Quotes: My generation's lost innocence

http://musingsnotesquotes.blogspot.com/2013/11/my-generations-lost-innocence.html

Musings, Notes and Quotes. Friday, November 22, 2013. My generation's lost innocence. Today marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, our nation's 35th president. And, unless you have gone on a personal boycott of consuming any form of media, the various outlets- from networks to cable channels to print to all things in between- are re-hashing the events of that fateful day. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Musings, Notes and Quotes. Published irregularly with idle musings; i...

The View from Section 10: August 2014

http://section10.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

The View from Section 10. Sunday, August 31, 2014. Week one of the new world order of college football. Week one of the "best regular season in sports" is complete and it was hard, while watching, to not think about the impact of teams' performances on the College Football Playoff selection process. Yes, "that" playoff starts this season and already we've got story lines developing for consideration by the 13-person selection committee. Here are some initial observations. The View from Section 10: March 2014

http://section10.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

The View from Section 10. Saturday, March 22, 2014. What have we learned after the first- ahem, second- round of the NCAA Tournament, a k a March Madness? Well, we know why Warren Buffett is not only smart but shrewd- who's surprised that no brackets, anywhere, are still in play for Buffett's $1 billion carrot for those hoping to pick a perfect bracket? We also know that, as a friend tweeted, "what the tourney giveth, the tourney taketh away" (see VCU, Duke, and Ohio State.). Talk about a Glamour. And, i...

The View from Section 10: Bowl season > March Madness

http://section10.blogspot.com/2015/03/bowl-season-march-madness.html

The View from Section 10. Saturday, March 28, 2015. Bowl season March Madness. March is the month of the year when seemingly everyone takes a sudden interest in college basketball. The most casual of fans, and even non-fans, fill out a bracket- all 11.6 million of us on ESPN.com alone, not counting bracket contests on CBS.com, Yahoo and other outlets. Yet, for all of the interest and chatter about March Madness, it still pales to the power of college football. A recent article in the New York Times.

The View from Section 10: The impact of Dean Smith

http://section10.blogspot.com/2015/02/the-impact-of-dean-smith.html

The View from Section 10. Sunday, February 8, 2015. The impact of Dean Smith. Has there been a coach in college basketball history who has impacted the game more than Dean Smith? Mull on that question for a minute and let me ask it again- has there been a coach in college basketball history who has impacted the game more than Dean Smith? Maybe; but to Smith the point was that no player- not even a young Michael Jordan- was above the system that was Carolina basketball. Smith's impact reached far beyond t...

The View from Section 10. Thursday, August 13, 2015. There's that "M" word again! Reprinted from the Premier Sports Management website. At the risk of showing my age and demographic category, I marvel at today’s Millenials—has there been a demographic group that has been more over-analyzed than this one? There were two pieces of research that we found, focused on Millenials, which challenged some of the conventional wisdom about this group. It’s not interactivity and rich content experiences that M...

Muse

The musings of a small person making her way with recycled wisdom through a very big world. November 18, 2011. I Have Read the Internet. In my incessant attempts to avoid any type of school work, house work, or social life, it would appear as though I've watched everything there is to watch, read everything there is to read, and pinned everything there is to pin. Anybody have any ideas? Because otherwise I'm going to have to get down to the dirty business of being a student. November 15, 2011. If you hav...

Musings and Melodies

Thursday, March 12, 2009. Lessons learnt this week, in the hard way. Start *doing* the assignment *on* the day it is given, especially when the assignment involves lab work. . If I get stressed out, it costs pretty dearly! I cannot eat cabbage 2 times a day, 5 days a week :(. If midterm week was so dreadful, I cant wait to die during the finals week! One reading with full concentration can do wonders. (I repent not doing my undergrad here). Finally, be proactive almost always. Sunday, March 8, 2009.

The Musings Of A New Millennium Nigga

The Musings Of A New Millennium Nigga. Politics.Pop Culture.Moments in history.philosophy.random thoughts. These are. "The Musings of a New Millenium Nigga". Wednesday, December 02, 2009. Like many kids in this country, when I was a boy I was always reminded not to waste food because There are starving children in Africa who would love to have that good food. And that brings me to you, your accident and your philanderin’ ways. What were you thinking, man? That’s okay (with me, at least), Tiger. If Je...

Musings & Observations

Monday, August 30, 2010. His widow, Dawn, didn’t schedule a memorial for him until this past August. I didn’t ask about the reasons for the delay, although I’m sure I understand them. His loss hit me hard, and I rarely had the opportunity to see him; I couldn’t imagine the magnitude of the pain she must have been feeling. A child of the ‘60s, Steve had the obligatory long hair, torn jeans, and (to me) psychedelic tastes. (That's Steve, on the left, in one of my favorite pictures of him.). Selfishly, I wa...

Because I don't spend enough time on the Internet. I'm quite crazy and reasonably smart, and I have lots of opinions and ideas. Sometimes, I actually manage to record them, and they end up here. Take it or leave it. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. 12 am, 1 am, 2 am, drowning. Of the brother of,. 3 am, 4 am, 5 am, laughing. Joke's on the awoken. And the not sleepy, still. View my complete profile. Thursday, March 11, 2010. I am writing today because after last night, I think I am officially losing my mind over comps. Is it possible to have a recurring nightmare over the course of one night? I feel like I had only one dream last night, and it repeated itself about 17 times. I still feel a panic attack coming on just thinking about. There isn't enough time and I'm panicking again. I'm so nervous that I won't do well next week, and my degree depends on it. Okee doke.
