Sunday, 25 January 2015. Severn Valley Country Park - Starling roost. Sunday 25th January 2015 :. Linda and I set the net in the main bird hide pool, hoping to catch Reed Buntings coming into roost. A few small flocks of Starlings became a very large flock ( c 600-700 birds ) which treated us to aerial displays before diving into the reeds. Lots of noise, and excitement as we approached the net, expecting a large catch . not to be! Birds ringed : Reed Bunting 9, Starling 1. Sunday, January 25, 2015.

Single net set up in the garden of Ian Plumridge to introduce half a dozen members of the WECWG to bird ringing. All told Linda and I caught the following in very short 'net time' given the tremendous numbers of birds visiting the feeders. Latest news from the island. Tuesday, 30 September 2014. Weather: S force 1,. Goldcrests again arrived in good numbers (16), also 2 Chiffchaffs and a Grey Wagtail, not many other records today as work on the wildlife garden took priority, but a moth discovered in the garden as the work was in progress was of great interest as it is probably the first live example seen on the island. Latest news from the island. Thursday, 30 April 2015. Weather: WNW 4-5, heavy rain. A tough day for observers with conditions hard going with heavy rain and a blustery WNW hampering migration although 6 Wheatears pushed through. The two young Rock Pipits were being fed by both parents at the north end and are thriving so well that they were occasionally picking up insects on their own (above and below, CJ). Friday, 30 August 2013. 2013 has been a relatively slow year, ringing wise. I've ringed little of interest and therefore haven't updated the blog. Now however, I'm back in Gedser, Denmark; where I have now work for a few weeks. I'll return home shortly and attend University (Nottingham Trent) in late September.
