Pounding Away: Festivus for the rest of us
http://obspoundingaway.blogspot.com/2011/12/festivus-for-rest-of-us.html
Adventures in weight loss and trying to eat better. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Festivus for the rest of us. We are getting down to the end of the year, and the measuring of how we did on our goals. Will it fall under The Airing of Grievances, or The Feats of Strength? I'll put mine somewhere in between. I like that I have made progress, but would like to have made more. I started the year at 257 lbs and am at 247 now. Posted by Roland Wilkerson. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Has written about cul...
Pounding Away: Learning to breathe
http://obspoundingaway.blogspot.com/2011/12/learning-to-breathe.html
Adventures in weight loss and trying to eat better. Wednesday, December 14, 2011. I did the breathing thing because when I asked the students to choose a virtue to work on in themselves, several mentioned anger and patience. Learning how to lower our blood pressure and heart rate helps alleviate some of those issues. Dr Andrew Weil's 4-7-8 breathing exercise is here, along with some other breathing exercises: http:/ www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART00521/three-breathing-exercises.html. Posted by Roland Wilkerson.
Pounding Away: Wrapping up a year of pounding away
http://obspoundingaway.blogspot.com/2011/12/wrapping-up-year-of-pounding-away.html
Adventures in weight loss and trying to eat better. Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Wrapping up a year of pounding away. I want to thank everyone who's been supportive and encouraging this year on our blog. I've lost about ten pounds, not what I'd planned, but better than nothing. I've learned that tracking calories helps me stop eating at the end of the day, and not graze while reading or watching a movie. Thanks for being a part of my journey. Posted by Roland Wilkerson. Pounding Away: Mr. In-Between
http://obspoundingaway.blogspot.com/2011/12/mr-in-between.html
Adventures in weight loss and trying to eat better. Monday, December 12, 2011. I tipped the scale at 182 today, 2.5 pounds short of my goal, and I'm in that weird place where my pants are a little too large. If I let them hang down, I look like an elderly white hip-hop artist; if I cinch my belt tight and tuck my stomach underneath, I look like a farmer out for his first big night on the town since the election of Bill Clinton. Pounding Away: It's been a fun year....so long!
http://obspoundingaway.blogspot.com/2011/12/its-been-fun-yearso-long.html
Adventures in weight loss and trying to eat better. Friday, December 23, 2011. It's been a fun year.so long! As this blog wraps up, I've been thinking about my goals for the year. I made some great progress as a runner, training and running my first half marathon, and even lost a little weight along the way (about 10 pounds! The fall has been hard because I managed to catch a couple bad colds, but I'm getting back into my groove now. It was frustrating to lose momentum on running and to have to rebui...

Charlotte's Biggest Losers: Take a Minute to Appreciate
http://cltbiggestlosers.blogspot.com/2011/11/take-minute-to-appreciate.html
Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Take a Minute to Appreciate. Its that time of year where I take time to give thanks for life, my family and friends and even for the negative parts of life - like being overweight. Why would I be thankful for being overweight after almost a year of trying to lose weight? As much as losing weight is my goal, today I wish to remember those that do not have enough to eat - even here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Posted by Nancy J. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Charlotte's Biggest Losers: July 2011
http://cltbiggestlosers.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 28, 2011. You Don't Miss the Well. She was the cheerful leader that inspired all that attended her sessions. She inspired each of us with her real-life weight loss journey that surprisingly resembled each of our own. For seven years she was there even when some of us, like me, were not. Last week our Weight Watchers @Work leader, Ty Gardener, unexpectedly left our account and left a void. Posted by Nancy J. Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Finally taking the plunge. Charlotte's Biggest Losers: A Gift To Yourself
http://cltbiggestlosers.blogspot.com/2011/12/gift-to-yourself.html
Friday, December 9, 2011. A Gift To Yourself. The season and all that kinda stuff. In my opinion there is way too much emphasis on food and shopping and buying gifts for people who don't really "need" the gift. Of course, giving to charities and keeping the less fortunate in mind this time of year is a good alternative to rampant consumerism. How about your own health and weight loss needs? Why not give yourself a gift of a membership to a gym or the "Y"? Have a wonderful Holiday season you wont regret!
Charlotte's Biggest Losers: Doing What You Must
http://cltbiggestlosers.blogspot.com/2011/11/doing-what-you-must.html
Monday, November 28, 2011. Doing What You Must. How many of you love getting up early every morning to wake your kids or yourself up to go to school and to work. If you were truthful, you'd admit that there are probably other things you'd prefer to do today, but yet everyday you get up and follow your normal routine. Why? You do it because you must. Get up early and get breakfast. Take some time for myself. Until then take care. Posted by Nancy J. November 29, 2011 at 10:07 AM. Good grief, enough already!

Charlotte's Biggest Losers: May 2011
http://cltbiggestlosers.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 27, 2011. Being a Floridian, the recent hot weather while exercising outdoors feels a little bit "familiar". Maybe not quiet. As humid as Orlando Fl but still easy to work up a good soaking wet T shirt. There is nothing that makes you feel like you've had a successful workout than the sound of a big SPLAT as your T shirt hits the garage floor after a long walk or bike ride. Now get out there and go for a hot, wet, wilting walk. Thursday, May 26, 2011. What Oprah taught us about weight. Straye...
Charlotte's Biggest Losers: February 2011
http://cltbiggestlosers.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 28, 2011. Tastes like a BIG Chicken. I've lost 14 pounds so far by thinking about stuff. Thinking about my exercise program and thinking about what to eat and what not to eat. Thinking about stuff is important, but actually "doing" something as a result of your thinking is where you make the progress on your fitness and weight loss. Plan a topic to totally immerse my mind in while breathing heavy. For instance, I recently read that some Japanese. Scientist had found some frozen Woolly.

Charlotte's Biggest Losers: Shopping Injury
http://cltbiggestlosers.blogspot.com/2011/11/shopping-injury.html
Tuesday, November 29, 2011. So how did you do at holding the line on eating for Thanksgiving? I did fine on T-Day. I did somehow put the two pounds back on that I had just lost the week before during the long holiday though. So its back to seek the "routine" again. My routine typically involves walking and jogging these days. A "shopping" injury, however, is hampering those activities. I was roped into going to an outlet mall near Mebane. To walk. Haven't. Items Charlotte area high school sports fans don't want to miss. Wednesday, August 6, 2014. Fayetteville's Kwe Parker aka The Insane Dunking Machine. In 26 years of covering high school basketball, I've seen a lot of great dunkers. For me, the best I've seen in person is Vince Carter. Gerald Henderson, now of the Hornets. And LeBron James were also pretty amazing in high school. I once saw former Providence High and UNC star Antawn Jamison. Posted by Observer Sports. Friday, June 20, 2014. CHICAGO (June ...

Peter St. Onge
Peter St. Onge. Columns and conversations on the place we live. Saturday, November 10, 2012. For gay marriage, a quiet historic night. It arrived in somewhat muted fashion, tucked in the fine print of an election night. You might even have missed the results that flashed briefly on your television screen, or the commentators using words like “milestone” before moving on to the bigger news of the day. History doesn’t always reach out to shake us. North Carolina, of course, isn’t one of them. In ...There m...
