Sunday, April 14, 2013. Use the term Angelenos. And most people think of residents of Los Angeles, the City of the Angels. Well, West Coasters, there's another set of Angelenos. Farther north up the same coast in the Port of the Angels. The southerly (California) city, El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora de los Angeles, "The Town of Our Lady of Angels". Was officially named in 1781. LA's San Pedro waterfront is one of the busiest in the nation ( link. Centuries of development have altered the waterfront for both...

OnTheMove-Road Trips: November 2008
http://otm-roadtrips.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 22, 2008. If we're not at home and we're not cruising, then we must be on a road trip. Can a day trip along the back roads NW of Mt. Rainier count as a mini road trip? That's all we can claim this month. Now we've seen the historic Carbonado Tavern with it's parking lot full of bikers on a road rally. We found Mud Mountain dam. We viewed acre after acre of fall color. All in all a lovely day, but not a REAL road trip. Stay tuned for pics and details of future adventures.

Your chili, here's a recipe that puts the beer in. The chili as well, as an important flavor component. and yes, of course, you can still enjoy a glass or two as well. I already have scores of chili recipes, my blog recipe index currently notes five of the favorites, so why mess with one more version? Two-Pork Chili with Stout tastes so.

Thursday, September 11, 2014. A Sudden Summer Storm. Have a strange sense of humor. Why else, after we spent a spring and summer of cool, wet weather in SE Alaska, would she greet our return to sunshine and warmth with this dramatic show? Photo: Storm front approaches from the west. Photo: The view to the north as the storm front approaches. Photo: The view to the east as the storm front approaches. You know what followed, right? Labels: at the dock. Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Where did she come from.

Friday, November 4, 2011. No, it's not really a snake ranch, but it looks like it could be snake territory. I think only one rattlesnake has been spotted in all of the years Mom has owned and hiked the property, but we all still call it the Snake Ranch. These ten acres are in the Yucca Valley portion of the Mojave Desert. Near Twentynine Palms and the Joshua Tree National Forest. Okay, I'm showing off with that word, it's a geologist's word for rock pile, from the German word meaning "island mountain".

Friday, June 12, 2015. Red Bluff Bay and Bear. Even before the anchor dropped RL spotted the first grizzly in the estuary. We were barely settled when a sow with two cubs wandered into view, grazing on the lush foliage in the estuary. We jumped into the skiff and headed over for our first brief photo op… brief. In the midst of transferring the images from cameras to computer, another grizzly appeared along the bear trail, less than 200 feet off the stern. Photo op! Very few bear made an appearance over t...

OnTheMove-In the Galley: August 2014

Cooking afloat and ashore - it's always fun and often exciting in my galley. Saturday, August 30, 2014. Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first. Ernestine Ulmer. Who would argue with that advice? Not me, not today. The stovetop refused to heat, it was w-a-a-y too hot to bake and I couldn't find the energy to walk to town for lunch or even an ice cream cone. Broiled stone fruit to the rescue! I considered making Nutty Nectarines. Life is good. and so are Broiled Plums. A Tablespoon or two of brown sugar.
